The current Genos2 firmware is now V1.04, so I locked this topic.

Best regards,

Hi jazzy_beat,

No, the status of the Freeze button cannot be saved in Registrations.

The purpose of the Freeze function is that the parameter group(s) previously set in the Freeze setting display (press "Direct Access > Freeze") can no longer be changed by Registrations, OTS or MIDI files. However, you can easily edit your registrations so that certain parameter groups are not changed when a registration is called up.

For example, if you don't want a particular registration to switch the current style, just re-memorize each registration button "back to itself", but with the Style box unticked (and at least with the Voice and Keyboard Harmony boxes ticked). Then re-save the bank.

Hope this helps!
Chris

If you are trying to play by ear here is a great 17 video lesson series.  8)

Keep in mind you can TRANSPOSE the "chords" to every song you want to play into the key of C. By doing so, you will only need to LEARN one key to play on your keyboard (the key of C). That way you can memorize the scale quickly and generally you won't be using the black keys at all.

You can always use the TRANSPOSE key on your keyboard to sound like you are playing and any key you need or want to. Use the power of your HIGH TECH keyboard to your advantage. It will make learning to play more fun and you will enjoy playing it more often.  ;)

A piece being 'in the key of C' simply means that for the most part, it will stick to the notes in the scale of C and, most likely, finish on a C in the melody with a C major chord as the harmony.

You'll need more than one chord. Harmonies in a lot of tunes are based on the 1st, 4th and 5th notes of scale that goes with that key. In C major that would be C, F and G majors. They may need variants of those chords, adding a 7th to make G7, for example. And they may well use the minor chords based on notes 2 and 6 of the major scale. In C, that would be D and A minors. Many tunes will need more chords than that!

And there's a lot more to melody and harmony, scales and keys and how they relate to keyboard playing. Spend a little, find a keyboard teacher (not a piano teacher who may reluctantly teach keyboard - and often badly!) in your area or on line via Zoom. Better in the long run than floundering in the dark, building up bad habits that will be hard to shake off!

Yes, Monja is a good example of melody that I play by ear on this video -I mean, everyone knows this simple melody. Btw. I played it in C key, so everyone can easily learn it. It's interesting...

Maybe a stupid question, how to play in C?
Is one specific chord the C major chord?

Genos2 / Re: genos 2 arrived yesterday

Hi Elaine:

I hope you enjoy your Genos2 as much as I do. Two comments that might be helpful:

1. If you have problems with the way the sliders work, you can program the knobs to also change volumes of the various parts.  The knobs change from their present positions, unlike the sliders.
2. To simplify the style quickly and in real time, I suggest that you use the knob (or slider) function called StyMuteA and StyMuteB (documented in the Genos2 reference manual, page 148.  StyMuteA adds the bass, chord1, chord2, pad, phrase1, phrase2 tracks as you rotate it; that is, a small rotation just gives the bass, more rotation bass+chord1 etc.  StyMuteB works the other way around.

Hi Lacko and Chris. It would appear my packs on the USB have become corrupted somehow. I down loaded a new pack from the Yamaha site, loaded it into the YEM and it works fine.

Many thanks for the assistance

Hi Chris. Yes, SX900. The Packs are converted from T4 and have been used on occasions previously. I have to say I have not the one expansion pack purchased from the Yamaha site. I will search it out, give it try and come back to you.
