« on: November 14, 2022, 07:18:57 AM »
Hi Everyone i was curious if yamaha is releasing the next midrange arranger yet. I have a psr s770 and want to upgrade soon but was willing to wait til the next upgrade so insteas of the sx700 for example i would go for what comes after maybe psr sx750.

As always ... nobody knows except Yamaha insiders, and they won't be telling

Think it will be the same as usual. The S Series is usually released a couple of years after a new Flagship keyboard is launched so possibly 2025.

2025? I guess that means the technology is taped out at this point. Yamaha can't make money until they produce a new product.  ;)

Pretty much just old retired folks are buying these high end machines.  8)

The next generation after us "Boomers" is a lot smaller in population size. This would seem to be Yamaha's best years to crank out the product.

I can wait 'em out. Just  hope my keyboard can too.  ;D

Genos 2 isn't even out yet, so you're gonna be waiting a long time for the SX variant. I made the jump to the SX900 from the S770, I'm satisfied with the move.

Hi --

I use the date on the MIDI Implementation chart as the approximate date when Yamaha froze the initial software implementation for a model. The SX700/SX900 date is "June 2019", so the initial software implementation is about 3.5 years.

Like second-guessing Apple product releases, only Yamaha know. Some Apple buyer's guides rate individual products according to a scale like:
  • Buy now - Just updated (green)
  • Neutral - Mid-product cycle (grey)
  • Caution - Approaching end-of-cycle (yellow)
  • Don't buy - Updates soon (red)
I suspect that the SX700/SX900 are at least neutral, possibly caution.

Patience is a virtue. One question I ask myself, "Is there any musical goal that I cannot achieve with my current instrument?" That answer is usually, "No." Saves a lot of money and needless self-inflicted frustration.  :D

Hope this helps -- pj

P.S. Maybe we should adopt these kinds of ratings on the forum?

-you pretty much nailed it, pjd.

Now and then I do hit on some limitation of my current keyboard (SX700), which makes me wish to have something "better". And when that happens, I try to keep in mind, that my keyboard still has so many features, which I don't even use yet -not to mention, that my playing skill is the biggest limitation. Means, on my keyboard, I can play any music I can imagine... if I only knew how.

And so... When will Yamaha make next keyboard? I don't care, I can only play on keyboard that exists.

That is good to know. I also think Yamaha Can release a firmware update for now at least for the sx700 to add the additional chrior voices like the ShooBeeDooBaa stuff for example. 8)

They won't do that. If you want what is on the SX900 then you need to buy one.

Than you all for your thoughts and imputs. I will decide as this new year progresses on. Based on what Pj saya i feel either i upgrade now and get the sx700 or i will be paitent and wait a couple more years.
