Songbook+ and Genos Registrations
« on: February 20, 2024, 12:05:40 PM »
I just got involved with Songbook+ and and trying to learn how to control the Genos registration or playlist selection from songbook. I have been unable to find a reference from the manual or online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have linked the songbook on my iPad to the Genos with no problem.

Thanks in advance.

Last page is probably what you need.

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for the reply.

Yes, I have that document.

Here's my current problem:
*I open a song in Songbook+ (song is a TAB sheet I use with lyrics and Chords as a PDF file)
I select the bank and memory of the song, but when I click the menu icon, there is no "Now Link The Song" selection. only the "View" selections.

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong.

Rick

I don't think your MIDI connection is good.  Check the settings.... under the "Settings" icon,  then back out to the main menu again and hit the three dots next to the settings icon.  There you have a MIDI monitor and you can see which commands are being sent, restart and etc.  I vaguely remember having issues setting mine up and I had missed a setting on the Genos.  Settings, MIDI, ensure "All Parts" is selected right at the top. With no song selected ie all your songs are in a list:

1. Go to 'Settings' (the Cog icon)
2. Select 'MIDI'
3. Select 'Easy Keyboard Control - Control mode'
4. Select 'Yamaha Genos + PSR-SX900/700 (with link)'
5. Close the 'Settings' menu and select any song in your Songbook
6. Access the Song menu by pressing anywhere in the score
7. Press the 3 dots to the left of 'MIDI' in the top menu bar.

Half way down the menu that appears, you should now see an option 'Yamaha Keyboard Link'. Press that and you should be able to link your song to the current Registration.

If you get an error message about not being able to link, then press 'MIDI' (in the top bar) and then 'Restart MIDI'.

Sometimes, you might have to close Songbook+ and reopen it.

Cheers

Thanks Rick. That’s the adapter I am using.
My connection from iPad to Genos is a usb cable going through the Apple adapter Rick D recommended.   I midi connection. Is that what I am missing?

Hello both Ricks:  no need for a USB connection between Genos and iPad.  The Genos wireless connection works flawlessly if you follow the instructions for *both* devices.   For anyone who might be interested the same is true using the PA5X with a wireless MIDI adapter:  I use one iteration of Songbook + on an iMac for Genos and another on an iPad for the Korg.

cyber swine,

I started out with the wireless setup, but it what not stable, it would work fine one day then not work the next. I got sick of messing with it, so I went with a wired connection for 100% stability.

Thanks for everyone's help. Unfortunately, I still do not have "Yamaha Keyboard link: menu item available. Only screen choice.

Current situation:
* I have removed the USB cabling and setup Genos wireless WLAN.
* I Selected 'Easy Keyboard Control - Control mode'; Selected 'Yamaha Genos + PSR-SX900/700 (with link)'
* I now have the "MIDI" icon on Songbook's main screen blinking and MIDI IN and MIDI out is checked.
* The MIDI monitor:
   Source Added: PG Midi Connection
   Destination Added: PG Midi Connection

This is very frustrating. About to give up. This should be a lot easier than this.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again,

Rick

Have you pressed 'Restart MIDI' as I suggested?

Hi Chris,

Yes. Pressed Re-start Midi. Shut down Songbook and restarted Songbook. Shut down Genos and iPad and re-started both.

Just to be clear, does a menu appear when you press 'MIDI' at the top of the screen?

As I said earlier, this menu should give you an option 'Yamaha Keyboard Link' which underneath says 'Now link the song'. Is that option there?

Hi Chris.

When I press the "MIDI" icon at the top center of the screen, it displays MIDI IN, MIDI Out. No selection for Yamaha Keyboard Link.

When I press the Menu icon (three dots), there are only choices to change the screen type.

I hav tried this on a fresh reboot of the app, and after selecting a song.

My mistake sorry. I meant to say the 3 dots to the left of 'MIDI'.

You should get a menu with 'Yamaha Keyboard Link' as above.

The 3 dots to the left of MIDI look like they are playlists choices. I have no  Yamaha keyboard link. The 3 dots (horizontal dots) to the right of midi have screen selections. No Yamaha Keyboard link. Very strange.

Oh well. I am sorry for wasting so much of your time.

You're not on the correct screen.

The screen I'm referring to appears after you've picked one of your songs.

Press on the song and a top menu bar will appear. (See 5. and 6. of my instructions below.)

The 3 dots I'm referring to are to the left of 'MIDI'. That should give you the link option.

After I choose a song, of course the song appears.

The screen background is white with the song.

If I press on the screen as your mentioned previously, the screen stays white with the song and the top of the screen is blue with a trash can in the top right and and "X" in the top left and a Left and right arrow.  and 3 dots in the middle of the screen.

It appears that the only option to get to the 3 dots to the left of "MIDI" , is to press the "X", which I do and there  is no keyboard link. What am I doing wrong. I must be stupid?

This is the toolbar I see when I press on a song:

I've highlighted the 3 dots.

Are you sure you can't see this toolbar?

Chris,

I got it. I had to make a playlist first, add the songs to the playlist, then the link appeared.

Thanks so much for your excellent help. I hope you have a great day.

Many thanks:

Well , I'm 90% of the way there.

Now when I go to link the song to registration, I get an error with Yamaha registration.

I've tried resetting midi and reloading the app with same results.

What error do you get with the registration?

I assume it's the 'Error linking to Yamaha Registration Bank' message.

That's almost certainly a connection issue.

When I get one of those, I click on MIDI at the top and press 'Restart MIDI'. If that doesn't work, I close the app (completely) by swiping up and restart the app. Also, you could try shutting your keyboard down and restarting.

Sometimes, it takes a few attempts.

Chris,

100% working. You were right - connection problem. I wired for USB connection and it started working right away.

Weird. The wireless setup seemed to be correct-pretty straight forward. I'll fool with it later on. Now for some fun.

Next I have to try to get Songbook set up for 2 books. So far, that doesn't seem straight forward either.

Thanks again for all your help. I hope you have a great rest of your day.

I'm really happy you've got it working.

Maybe I'm easily pleased, but what a great feeling it is when you select a song and it then selects your registration (and of course vice versa).

Cheers
