Moving data from PSR SX 700 to PSR SX900 advice needed
« on: January 30, 2024, 06:03:33 AM »
UPDATE: For anyone searching this same topic. Put the USB in the 900...still seeing nought but the title of a rehistration when I attempt to load it, so I chose File, edit -I could see my information so it was there all the time.  There was a button to turn regstration sequence on, I chose that and voila... :o ::) ;D
I now have all my stored registrations and are playing through them to check and modify if needed in the 900. If only I had looked at file edit sooner - thanks guys for the help.

Hi brains trust, I just bought a second keyboard, the psr sx900. I have the sx700. What steps do I need to take to transfer all my data from the 700 to the 900 including registrations? we have registrations for about 50 songs. I know how to drag in material from the YEM stuff but am unsure about our registration banks. and the very few user created styles we have. Thanks
(yeah the Genos 2 was out of my price range for now so I went for the baby!)

Ok - I have tried a few things....got my expansion packs done thanks to YEM. I really really need my registrations....backing up from the 700 doesn't create me a backup file for the 900 to recognise. Just having the folder copied on a usb isn't working - sees a folder but nothing inside. Help please :) :) What do I try now?

Are you selecting Regist at the top of the page before looking for your registrations.
You have to tell the keyboard what to look for.

Let me give you 2 screen shots - one from the xs700 shows the full registration detaisl - style, voices, sequence, tempo. The second is what I get on the 900 - nothing changes. I am using the USB and the registration tabs. I get the titles of the registrations on the 900 but no corresponding data.

I think your registrations are not working because you didn't create them on the SX900.
I don't think you can just transfer registrations between keyboards.
Fred is probably the man to ask.

But try this.....

I've just received a new SX 700 from Yamaha after my original one developed an as yet unknown fault

But when I put my memory stick from the old one into the new one, it wouldn't read a lot of the info from the old one. Despite them being identical keyboards.

BUT when I copied my backup copy fro the PC onto a new memory stick formatted on the new keyboard (Menu 2/ Function/ Storage) it all worked.

Don't ask me how or why, I'm far too old to even begin to understand most of these things.

Keith.

thanks Keith - ubforunately a back of a 700 only works on a 700....the file name has 700 in it. The 900 wants one with 900 in the file name. :(
I am not sure I should change the file name but I may yet give that a try. Thank you

Hi Jenny,

A .BUP Backup file (contains the user-defined System settings as well as the complete contents of the internal User drive) is model-specific, meaning it only works with the model on which it was created. So an SX700 .BUP file definitely doesn't work with an SX900.

By the way, I suspect that Keith didn't mean a .BUP backup file at all, but rather files (e.g. Styles, Registration Bank files or MIDI files) that he had manually saved (copied) to a USB stick and to the PC.

Best regards,
Chris

➪ Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
➪ Never put the manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Hi Jenny,

Here are some questions for my better understanding:

- Are your SX700 registration banks loaded normally on the SX900, i.e. without an error message?

- And do the registration memory buttons that contain data on the SX900 light up?

- If so, does anything change when you press the Reg buttons on the SX900, or does nothing change at all in the home display?

Best regards,
Chris

That's pretty well my thinking on it too.

Certainly worth a try, and as long as you keep the original file, nothing to lose!

Maybe just try one of your registrations and see if it reads it?

Hi Chris.

Yes, that's correct. I didn't mean a. BUP file.

Thanks. Keith

Hi Jenny,

Here are some questions for my better understanding:

I get no error message - the file name shows - nothing else

- And do the registration memory buttons that contain data on the SX900 light up?
yes they work but not when trying to use sx700 made registrations.

- If so, does anything change when you press the Reg buttons on the SX900, or does nothing change at all in the home display? Nothing changes in home display except the title of the registration - as per the photos.

Thanks anyway :) Looks like I just need to recreate them on the sx900.

Updated my first post - but if you get to the bottom the solution was a DOH moment....
Insert USB
Navigate to registrations on usb
Choose one - file - edit
check there is data the - yep
Turn registrations on
Done....it now loads the data
Still a bit of a newbie here...never thoguh to check the file edit screen.
Happy days!

Well done Jenny.

That must be a very satisfying solution, and also helps others, including me! So thanks for sharing.

Well done.  :)
