Hi All. New here.(old visitor from back in the day)
I had owned a few arranger keyboards over the years.
Still have my first, the PSR 510. I was thrilled it had a 6 track sequencer and MIDI!

Then, years later,  the PSR 1500....and in 2011 bought the S900.

Last year I tried out the Medeli AKX10.

Nice keyboard. Keybed better than all older PSR models...and good user interface.
But...the sounds...so dated...about the same as my S900...only without the nicer sax, guitar and other sounds.

Biggest frustration is when I record 8 tracks of accompaniment (style)..the memory tops out at about 4 minutes...thats it. nothing to add, edit, etc.

So...with recent passing of my beloved mom, I decided to upgrade to the SX900.
Upgrade indeed!!

Now the questions.
1. Has  anyone install latest firmware? (ver 1.11).

All works fine?

2. Expansion packs. If I install a new one, will it delete the one's on keyboard already?

3.YEM... I didn't use this with my S900.
Besides getting more sounds into our keyboard (via expansion packs) is there any other reason to use YEM?

4. Is there styles made from older keyboards that are compatible with SX900?
How about any Genos styles..converted to SX900?

Thanks. So glad this place is still around!!

hello ANAYV and welcome,

1. Has  anyone install latest firmware? (ver 1.11). All works fine?
It's highly recommended you to install latest firmware -it's available for a while and nobody complained.

2. Expansion packs. If I install a new one, will it delete the one's on keyboard already?
Yes, existing installed pack is deleted when you install another one -unless you create so called "quick installation" pack (see manual for that).

3.YEM... Besides getting more sounds into our keyboard (via expansion packs) is there any other reason to use YEM?
Yes:
1. It allows you to create custom pack with a content of your choice (a single pack combined from multiple packs).
2. For creating custom normal and drum voices.

How about any Genos styles..converted to SX900?
Most older styles will work just fine on SX900 -that's also true for Genos styles adapted for PSR.

The latest SX900 firmware update had no issues for me.

Genos1 styles converted to SX900 sound great. A more critical ear than mine might make revoicing adjustments to them. However Genos2 to SX900 styles require some major revoicing.

Did you have to use a program to convert the Genos 1 styles to SX900?
Can you direct me to how to do this?

Thanks Rich!

Hey,
Latest firmware has no issues.

For Styles, will recommend downloading the Rikki collection on the sx900 page. Has a lot of audio styles as well.
https://psrtutorial.com/sty/yamaha/psr-sx900.html

If you want to experiment with Genos styles (will require re voicing a lot of styles as the sx won’t have those voices) you can get them from the Genos page
https://psrtutorial.com/sty/yamaha/Genos/genos.html

There are a lot of Rhodes/DX7 sf2 available online, I mostly use YEM to add voices.
Current: SX900
Past: PSR1100, PSR S700
