yamaha expansion packs
« on: December 30, 2023, 01:01:42 PM »
Hi All
Looking for a little advice.
I may be lucky enough to buy a second hand Genos.
It comes with a lot of extra software, but not any expansion packs. Now, there are about 4 packs I would like to add to the genos but don't fancy using YEM in case I lose anything. Did I read somewhere that they can be  added 'individually' without disturbing anything, maybe by usb transfer ??
Thanks in advance
Gordon

hi Gordon,
Trust me: you will want to use YEM! -because it's the only way to make a custom install pack that contains only what you wish to have installed on keyboard.
After you create such custom install pack (which is relative simply process), you can copy the pack and install it on keyboard by using USB stick. And no, you can't lose or disturb anything with that.

Absolutely agree with BOGDAN. 100.Percent.

YEM's biggest 'non problem"' is that users don't acquaint themselves with how it works BEFORE starting to install packs or new packs. Then they make a mess of it, and blame the program.
It's not the program. It's that they can't be bothered spending an hour say checking out some YouTube or reading HOW IT WORKS.

So long as you have the latest version.
Re-install any existing packs that are already on there, so if you have 3 packs already and you want to install another 4 then you will actually install 7 packs.
Have the keyboard initialisation data. and click on target instrument, then it really isn't difficult.
But you CANNOT take short cuts with it. You WILL come unstuck if you do.
Allow plenty of time to install the packs, follow the instructions which you will have written down...... You WILL do that, won't you.... and it really is easy.

Yes, it's a clunky program.
Yes, we reckon we could all write a better one! (Nobody has yet!)

Just get all the info you can BEFORE starting, and you'll truthfully wonder what all the fuss is about.

You won't lose ANYTHING by using YEM.

Keith.

Hi Bogdan and Keith
Thank you for the replies and appreciate your advice.
I will do just that and make sure I have all the 'info' before attempting.
As I mentioned, I haven't got the genos yet but need to get prepared.
Do you know the latest YEM firmware ?......I know it's V10 for Genos2 but not sure for the original genos.
Again thanks for your help.
