BTW, the names are M6, M7 and M8X.

I think the "X" might mean "escapement" -- the keybed in the pictures is textured and maybe Yamaha incorporated the NWGH from the YC/CP 88s.

I had a short conversation with a GC store manager. CP88s sell like crazy. One comes in and it sells almost immediately. The NW keybed is popular with CP88 people and maybe Yamaha adopted it for the Montage M8X?

Gotta miss the orange bank button on the old one, but the new encoder under the touch screen may point to a new va synth?

edit: Hopefully it is not as heavy as the old model too especially for the 6 and 7 model

Hello Steakikan, I have to agree with you.

It would be great if this new board is lighter than the old one.

As for the functions, it seems to me that Yamaha has integrated a Sampler on board the Montage.

just my thoughts

What exactly is escapement is the context of a keybed? I only know escapement in the context of a clock or watch...

piano escapement

Well, thanks, Michael. Now you've turned Maarten to the dark side and soon he will be posting to threads with hundreds of messages about key actions, escapement, touch weight, etc., etc., etc.  :D

A short answer: "In addition, the GH3X action incorporates an escapement mechanism. In a grand piano, this moves the hammers away from the strings quickly after they are struck in order to prevent any interference with string vibration; it also produces a slight clicking sensation when the keys are pressed gently. The GH3X mechanism reproduces this sensation near the bottom of the key dip. It has been designed in such a way that the click is discernible only on the lightest keystrokes, similar to the keyboard of a grand piano. This keyboard action has also been adjusted to provide additional friction that balances key repetition and response without impeding performance."

Yamaha Synths instagram posted some teaser pics, looks inline to what was posted in the OP above.
