Mic input issue
« on: July 08, 2023, 08:00:31 AM »
I can’t connect an xlr cable to my mic input.  The xlr connector jams and won’t go in.

I am able to insert a 1/4” cable in to the mic input and it works fine.

My Genos has been in the case for a few months, don’t know if this matters.

I have tried a few different xlr cable connectors…they all jam.

Have you checked the socket with a torch. Sounds as though you might have a broken off pin preventing proper connection.
Just a possible reason.

Ditto! You likely have a broken pin inside one of the socket connections, which can be easily checked with a flashlight and magnifying glass. If this is the case, removing that broken pin may require the use of a screw tap that will fit inside the broken pin itself.

Good luck,

Thx all

Turns out, it was a small piece of plastic broken off.

Got it fixed

Thx again

Glad you have resolved it.
Golden rule with plugs and sockets. Never insert them when the power is on, and if a plug won't go in, then don't try to force it, because there will be a reason it won't go in. Broken pins, wrong cable or even physical damage to the plug

Amen. I got a food crumb into an iPad earphone jack yesterday. Tried to fix it (on the airplane!), was careless and nearly botched the job by being impatient. I found some additional debris in the jack today when I could look in with a flashlight and magnifying glass. Could have been an expensive repair due to my carelessness...

Be careful out there -- pj
