Smart Chords Fingering Option
« on: April 06, 2023, 03:39:52 PM »

The Sx 600 has the Smart Chord fingering  option but it was not carried over to the sx 700 / 900 .

Was there a reason for this ?

Whats the chances it will be in a software update ?

To be honest, practically zero chance of this happening, though happy to be proven wrong.

Isn't the AI Fingering the replacement of that?

Smart  Chord is very different from AI fingering . It is a great option . I wonder why it was left off the sx700 and 900

Yamaha’s description .

Smart Chord will allow novice users to trigger chords within a user-determined key and music genre with one finger. This means that once you tell the keyboard what key you’re playing in and what genre of music you’re playing in, it will automatically determine the type/character (major, minor, diminished, 7th or dominant, etc.) of the chords triggered for you. The steps on how to successfully use the Smart Chord function are detailed on p.31 of the Owner’s Manual, and are outlined below:

It's still there, but not called Smart Chord fingering. Instead, it is called Multi-Finger, which allows the use of single finger chords, 2 finger minors, and normal fingering. It's a big improvement. You can find it by pressing Function/style setting, split point, fingering. Here you will find all the options available.

Hope this helps,

The Smart Chord feature is compleley different to Single Finger Mode.

DGX670 Reference Manual PAGE 19 explains how it works.
Try also selecting Style Easy Swing (via the [STANDARDS & JAZZ] button).
The Smart Standard...Jazz...Pop ect: Smart Chord selects different chord types to suit each.
Chord type changes to Jazz, letting you experience a different feel in the Song.

This link gives a great detailed overview of how Smart Chord works. I would be a great tool for a novice like me to learn more about musical styles.

I will attach You Tube Video when i find it again.
