Hi hossit,

Yes, a Style file is basically a Standard MIDI File (SMF0), so after renaming it to .mid you can also open/import it in MIDI player programs or in a DAW on the computer.

However, a style file contains additional "Non-MIDI" data chunks (keyword "CASM"). These are ignored when opening/importing in a standard DAW, i.e. if you change a style in the DAW, resave it as a MIDI file (SMF0 format) and rename it by the original file extension, the style will NOT work on the keyboard anymore.

With the PC (Windows) program "MixMaster" you can load, view, edit and save MIDI files (.mid) as well as Style files, Multi Pad files and User Voice files directly in the original format:

Another option is to use the program "Style Split and Splice" developed by our forum member Jørgen Sørensen. This allows you to split a style file into a .mid file and a "non-MIDI" file. The .mid file can then be edited in the DAW (within certain limits). Then you resave the edited "style" as a .mid file (in SMF0 format) and splice it back with the non-MIDI file to a working style with "Split and Splice" program.
