Change 4/4 Style to 2/4
« on: December 12, 2022, 10:03:02 AM »
Is it possible to modify a 4/4 Style to 2/4?

If so, can it be done on Genos?

Thanks in anticipation.

By assuming Genos behaves the same as PSR-SX, then this can not be done on keyboard.
If you try to do that (in StyleCreator), then you'll be asked "if you wish to clear all sections" and by confirming that (with Execute), complete style becomes blank -it does the same as "Initialize Style" (for new style creation).

You can do that with MixMaster (available for download in this forum), but result might depend on style itself. I tried on one of the style that I created and everything was fine. That is, time signature changed from 4/4 to 2/4 and there was no audible change in style -as expected.
Just curios... what do you wish to achieve by changing time signature?

Hi Bogdan,

Thank you for your input.
The question came from a friend who wants to play a song that contains parts with changes from 4/4 to 2/4.

Thanks again,
Stijn

That may not be the same thing as changing the time signature. I think what he really wants is to be able to insert some two beat bars in the middle of a song that is mostly 4 beat / bar.  That is different. Changing the time signature on a style really doesnít change anything. Itís still the same style.

I assumed there might be more behind the question and that's why I asked. And if what you mentioned is the reason, then that would require style modification.

Wouldn't using the half bar fill in work?

Kind regards,

Colas
You should place your files in a file sharing service like Box, then post the link to them here in the forum.

...

-that is copying content from one style into another (style assembly): for example (according to this topic), from 4/4 style into 2/4 style. But we should be aware, that by doing it that way, complete style actually changes sound wise. Not because of 4/4 vs 2/4 difference, but because the way style assembly works. That is, notes that don't fit into (smaller) pattern length, will be deleted.
Example:
We have 4/4 style, which originally has pattern length of 2 in MainA:
1st pattern: C3 E3 G3 C4
2nd pattern: C4 E4 G4 C5
-if we now copy above pattern into MainA of 2/4 style, then only 1st pattern will be copied. If that's what we want, then it's quicker if we simply decrease pattern length (in desired style section) and save as new style.

Anyway, only style user knows what (musical) result he wish to get and so it's impossible to give suggestions on what to do.
