It's been awhile for me, but I don't remember any type of activation that was required.

Hi Ed,

New accounts are activated when you login to our forum using your Username and password.  Your account is activated, Ed.

When a new member account is approved, they receive an email with login instructions, and you followed those instructions to the letter. 

Many new members continue to login as a guest, even though I approved their new account.  Logging in as a guest does not constitute activation and I remove those accounts from our member database 7 days after the account was approved.
