Hello from Northants, UK
« on: August 25, 2022, 08:55:35 AM »
Hi all (and thank you for accepting me)

I've been an avid lurker for a fair while, but thought it about time I did the proper thing and joined this really useful and informative community.

Hoping to learn plenty, and possibly one day, be able to assist others.

Have a great day  ;)

Mediocre player, but love playing
Generally in Cmaj (hate them fiddly black keys)

Previous kit - Piano-Key Accordion, Yamaha PSR7000
Current kit - Technics KN1000, Tyros 1 61key
Pondering T1 Upgrade to Tyros 5 61key or Genos.....

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, KevTheRev!

By the way, which keyboard model do you have?

All the best from Germany,

Hi overover,

I currently have a Technics KN1000 and a Tyros 1 (yes, remember them  ;D)

Not used ever together, and am currently contemplating an upgrade from the T1 to either a T5 61key, or a Genos.

So, I'm initially reading past posts to get a feel as to which way I should go.

£ is obviously a major factor with how the world is shaping up right now, but I've always been a supporter of looking further than current demand/requirements, especially if things not desired right now are too expensive or cannot be added later on.

With the above statement in mind, I'm still inching towards the Genos, even though it's around twice what I'd pay for the T5.

As mentioned in my sig, I play for pure personal enjoyment, I don't consider myself good by any means, and cannot read music so have a good ear for picking up tunes.

Thanks again for your interest.

Kev

Hi Kev,

Thank you for the details about yourself and your keyboards! :)

By the way, I'm currently using Genos and Tyros5.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris.

So, you win first prize if you get this question correct. ;D

Which would you recommend if money were no option?

I admit to initially being in the market for a T5 61key, as where I want to place does not have room for the 76 note variant.

But I can squeeze the Genos in ( fancy that  ;) )

Hi Kev,

Unfortunately, I overlooked your question at the time. Now here is my answer:

If you want the best NOW and money is not an issue, I recommend the Genos. The alternative would be to find/buy a very well-preserved Tyros5-61 now and wait for the Genos successor. However, it could still be a long time before it appears. Nobody can make the decision for you.

Tyros5 is still a very good keyboard and has certain advantages (e.g. brighter, easier to read display) over the current Genos, so for live performances I still mostly use the T5.

Best regards,
Chris

Hello Kev. I also have both a Tyros 5 61 note and a Genos. If you can afford it, go for the Genos. On the other hand, the T5 is built like a tank, had the same operating system as your T 1, and is still a very good keyboard.

and PSR-47.
