Sounds like a hardware problem, but first, do a complete, factory, restoration. This is done via the function button. Now, do not select anything other than a system restoration, or all the other date will be erased.
If this does not work, it may be time for you to upgrade to one of the newer models. That old 3000 has provided you with a lot of years of good service, and I was very happy to see it go to a good home.
