Genos and Vocal Harmony chopped at soft singing
« on: December 31, 2021, 04:52:43 PM »
Hi everyone

This is a problem I'm having for years since I've purchased my micrphone
When vocal harmony is ON and when I sing softly, the vocal harmony is either chopped or not active

I tried everything: canceling the gate, switching to SM-58. But it doesn't seem to fix the problem. When I sing loud it seems ok but when I sing softly it's an issue. The Gain dial is 3/4 up which I think it's high
But it seems that higher gate improves it a bit. I'm thinking maybe my preamp is not working well??? I'm very frustrated

Using:
Shure SM35 with the preamp that came with it plus a mogamy XLR cable

Thank you all in advance

Turn off the Compressor and Gate on the microphone. Watch this video.

The SM58 has been a great workhorse of the vocal world, HOWEVER, you must almost swallow it to get any reaction from it. At greater than 1 inch away, the gain pickup drops about 50% unless you're willing to yell into it. I've never liked them.

The SM58 Beta is better. I would try ckobu's advice and if you're still having issues, look at a different mic. AKG and Electrovoice make good mics.
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.
