What has happened to Mike Mixon?
« on: October 14, 2021, 07:52:09 PM »
Does anyone know the status of Mike Mixon, owner of Keyboards America.
I know he has been ill the first part of this year, but his website and YouTube Channel is like "someone turned the lights out".

Please reply if any of you know.

Thanks and Blessings,
Tom

I knew last fall he had a surgery done and he said it may be a month or more before he would be able to video his "Song of the Week" / and / Live broadcast etc.
Earlier this summer, he put out an email stating he was having trouble with a new rep. for Yamaha and that he may drop Yamaha from his line.
We have not heard anything else on his health / and / Yamaha challenges.

Hope is is ok.  He was very helpful when I first bought my tyros 5 from him in Oct 2017.

If you or other folks hear anymore updates, please let us know.

Thank you and Blessings,
Tom

There's a phone number here for anyone in the U.S. to use.

Here:http://www.keyboardamerica.co/about.html

It will be quicker to ask.
I'm in the U.K., but I watch Mike's YouTube videos too.

John.
I have a Tyros5/76 & Tyros4 SE XL.
My keyboard holds every song ever written. I just have to find them.

A reporter of the CapeGazette informed me about Mike Mixon's passing:

Michael G. Mixon, 68, of Milton, passed away Thursday, Feb, 29, 2024, at Bayhealth, Milford. He was born Jan. 25, 1956, son of the late Edgar Lee Arthur and Phyllis (Wright) Mixon.

Mike's passion for music began at a young age, starting to play the keyboard at 5 in 1961. His professional journey commenced around 14 when he played the organ at skating rinks, eventually transitioning into a career at the Wurlitzer/Steinway factory stores, selling organs and pianos. Mike's dedication to his craft and commitment to customer satisfaction led him to establish his own store in Lewiston, Maine, and then move the entire operation to Bear.

Through hard work and perseverance, Mike expanded his business to include Michael G's Music & Electronics in 1984, which became a very successful venture. In 1998, he opened a second location and ventured into the online realm with keyboardamerica.com, showcasing his forward-thinking vision for the future of the industry. Mike's goal was to sell only a trouble-free product with the expectation to last a lifetime and to give his clients years of musical enjoyment! Mike's extensive experience in the piano and organ industry spanned over five decades, during which he excelled as a performing artist. His contributions to the music community were recognized through various performances, including appearances with notable figures like Jack Jones and Phyllis Diller.

One of Mike's most memorable performances was for Princess Catherine Caradja of Romania during a P.O.W. reunion in the U.S. His musical talents also graced Major League Baseball events worldwide, including engagements in London, Germany, Holland, and with the Wilmington Blue Rocks in Delaware. However, at heart, he was an Avid Red Sox Fan.

Mike is survived by his wife of over 20 years Kathleen R. Mixon; two brothers, Thomas L. Mixon and Raymond D. Mixon (Carole); and several nieces and nephews.

I had saved the letter Mike had sent out last year about reviving “Song of the Week”.
I sat over the weekend at my Tyros 5, remembering Mike taking a lot of time explaining the Tyros. When he said he offered the Song of the Week free on line, plus all the add-ons. Boy, he was just top-shelf.
I do know Mike had a bad fall off a ladder, up high. He done a lot of damage, puncturing a lung, broke ribs, cuts and bruises. I just knew with all the past surgeries he recently had; well it was going to really take some time.  I texted him several times without response.
So, with that said, I just felt to try and see if we could connect. Well, I received a nice email from his wife Kathy.  She said Mike had passed three weeks ago and was finally released from all his pain. Sad.
Well, I hope the Good Lord will use his talents making beautiful music.   I was looking forward to his return. I will miss this gentleman THANKS Mike, dear friend. RIP Brother.
