Use Tyros3 speakers for Genos ?
« on: September 14, 2021, 02:48:03 PM »
Can I use the Tyros3 speakers (2 satellites + 1 sub-woofer) on Genos ?
The color will not match but that's not an issue when playing at home.

Hi tyros2009,

Without electrical modification, the Tyros3 speaker system (TRS-MS02) CANNOT be used on the Genos, because the Genos speaker system (GNS-MS01) is only connected to the Genos via the 8-pin cable, while with the TRS-MS02 system the output channel to the left satellite speaker runs via a separate cable outside the multi-pin cable.

In addition, the mounting brackets for the satellite speakers are different, and the sound of the GNS-MS01 has been significantly improved compared to the Tyros speakers.

For the reasons mentioned, it is not recommended to use a Tyros3 speaker system for the Genos.

Best regards,
Chris

If the Tyros 3 speakers are similar to the Tyros 5, it should work fine.  The Inputs of the speakers are 1/4 inch and should plug into the Master Output R & L of any keyboard.

This is the point: Tyros3 speakers (TRS-MS02) and also Tyros4 speakers (TRS-MS04) are connected differently than the Tyros5 speakers (TRS-MS05). T5 does not have an 8-pin socket like T3/4, so the T5 speakers are connected to the Main Output jacks.

@tyros2009
Due to the contribution of the user "kbrkr" it occurred to me that the subwoofer of the T3 (and the T4) speaker system has the same connections as the T5 subwoofer. This means that if you use the special cable that comes with the T5 speaker system, you CAN connect the T3 speakers to the Genos's Main Output jacks without any electrical modification. The cable in question can be bought individually, but it is not cheap:
>>> https://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_trs_ms05_cable_kit.htm

However, please note that, as mentioned, the mounting brackets for the satellite speakers will not fit and that the sound of the Genos via the T3 speakers will not be as good as via the Genos speakers (GNS-MS01) or via suitable studio monitor speakers.

P.S.
Please also note that with the Genos there is no possibility of automatically switching off the Main Outputs (and thus the external speakers connected there) by connecting headphones to the PHONES jack (as is possible with the Tyros5).

Best regards,
Chris
