Yes, there is a limit of 2500 files in a folder.

Hi Toril I think you mean 250 files per folder. Genos is 500.

The maximum number of files in Genos is 2500 and this applies to all subfolders in the root directory.

I think Toril is correct. Genos is 2500 for sure. On the newer Tyros models, 500 was the limit.

Not that you should ever have that many files in a folder, because it can slow things down dramatically, but 2500 is the limit.

Ok. But we usually have a lot of subfolders, so we have to be careful.

Ckobu,

The subfolder itself is counted as a file, but not the files in it.

In one folder, you could have 2499 files and a subfolder with 2500 files. Im not sure why youd ever want that many, but it could be done.

There can be 2500 files in the Sx700 and sx900 as well as in the Genos. When they are in the USER memory there is no deceleration.
Of course, it is not advisable to put so much on a USB stick.

All Folders are added together. I did a test. As soon as the contents of the root directory were over 2500 (marked in yellow in the image from the post above), backup was not possible.

I am Talking one individual folder or sub folder. If you try to put to many files in it the keyboard will not read it.

There is deceleration, and it's caused by the fact that Yamaha keyboards search a folder sequentially when looking for a file. The more files you have in a folder, the longer it can take to find the file. It's true the Genos's SSD is much faster, but sometimes, even with it, the delay is noticeable (for example, when a registration is to display a text file).

All Folders are added together. I did a test. As soon as the contents of the root directory were over 2500 (marked in yellow in the image from the post above), backup was not possible.

Looks like you've found the problem the OP was looking for -- you can't back up more than 2500 files. I never use the keyboard's backup system, as I simply copy everything on the drive to my computer using USB Storage Mode.

I don't think we understood each other. Technically, of course, there is a slowdown. In practice, when used on a keyboard, the human eye cannot notice the delay. Searching for everything stored on the USER memory is instantaneous. I will repeat, this does not apply to data that is on USB because it cannot be indexed in the same way.

I do regular backups on several levels and on a couple of different media. HD on the computer, HD in the closet  ;D The BUP file is there just in case because it is easy to create.

I just have one quick question that relates to the topic (I apologize if I'm hijacking).
How many subfolders could I make from the root, in the USR and in the USB?
I thought it's 5 but I'm not sure.
Thank you very much. Ted

Hi Ted,
The number of subfolders is not limited, you can have 200 if you want. The total number of files in them is limited.
Im not entirely sure if the number of folders counts in these 2500. It should be checked.
See my USER memory location for Style. I have a Zeroo_Style folder in it with an additional 200 subfolders.

Save all your files to USB and then back this up on your computer. It is very easy to do.

Hi ckobu,
I can see your root folder is "2021-11-13_215513", followed by 4 subfolders: STYLE/Z_Pack_Style/Zeroo_Stle and one of 200 folders. Total is 5.
And total files in the root folder is 2297 < 2500.
Is this Yamaha rule?
Thanks ckobu

Hi ticktock

The image you mentioned is a backup of Genos, and is on the HD of my computer. I made it using the USB storage Mod method, I copied all the USER memory folders from the keyboard to my HD on the computer.
You can see the whole folder structure in the picture in my #4 post on this topic; STYLE - REGIST -SONG - TEXT - VOCIE .... The STYLE folder is a root folder and contains 14 subfolders (larger red box). In the first three subfolders there are new subfolders and so on to Zeroo_Style where again I have 200 Folders with 404 files.
In the same way this structure is set up in the keyboard, I just copied it to the computer. All subfolders in the Style root folder were created and copied to them. When the keyboard is brand new and USER is empty, then there is only a root folder.

Hi ckobu,
I see now that STY is the root folder.
So it looks like"STYLE/Z_Pack_Style/Zeroo_Stle/FOLDER/filename.sty. The "filename.sty" is the 5th level from the root "STYLE", which is the 1st.
I'd like to thank you very much for your help in here and for your valued videos in Youtube. You should be called "Professor".
