Having looper sequencer abilities

I don't know if this is a feature present in any arranger keyboard to date.
But I'd really like to be able to set any of the 16 tracks in the sequencer to simply loop.
It would then be like having a 16 track midi looper.
[Loop stations are really expensive, A Boss RC505 MKII Loop Station with 5 tracks costs nearly 1k$]

It would make composing the background beats/patterns so much faster.
A style is essentially a looping pattern.
But programming a style etc. is difficult, takes a lot of time.
And when it is used with the 16track sequencer, it creates all kinds of complications.

Do any of you wish for the same?

I have a Yamaha S770, and I cannot even have the whole song player simply loop smoothly.
The loop button is there, but then it leaves a gap with ticking the metronome 4 times before starting the next loop, which defeats the ability to use it that way.

As you say... "A style is essentially a looping pattern".  It's a MIDI looping sequencer not an audio looper.

You have 8 channels in the style which are loops, plus 4 Multi Pads which are loops.  12 looping channels are plenty to work with.  If you have a newer keyboard with the arpeggiator that will also add some interesting dynamics.

If you want to access channels 1 through 8 you will have to buy StyleMagic   https://www.midisoft.pl/en/
Channels 1 - 8 are used for variations of channels 9-16 such as for minor chords or arpeggios. StyleMagic will allow you also to Export and Import individual style Parts like Style Creator Assembly on the keyboard. to build new styles.

Here is a series of tutorials for making styles on the sx900: https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,58647.msg454366.html#msg454366

Also see my article on Multi Pads. link is below in my profile. The download contains my custom Multi Pads and demos on how to build arrangements using registration banks.

I hope this helps

It is pricey at €260.33 and is rather limited.  You can record loops with Style Creator but cannot do what the looper does, this might be a good addition to use with a style.  Multi Pads can be changed on the fly as explained in my article. Once you build a database of Multi Pads you can do similar things using registrations.

Have you tried the midi song looper.

Yea, unfortunately the midi song looper leaves a somewhat long pause in-between the loops.

Better still -and Imho - a facility like Ableton clip and scene launching etc seems the way to go - for EVERY DAW or instrument purporting to be a "workstation".

Both a linear old-fashion type sequencing function - along with SESSION pages stuff - are becoming almost a staple now.

Logic has something, Digital Performer has it, MASCHINE sort of has it -  FANTOM does, KORG GADGET. None of course are ac Komplete or exactly like Ableton - but still.  I believe MONTAGE/MODX has it in some limited manner.

It would be great to see future arrangers like GENOS2 etc - go in a direction that combines the advantages of style arranging and live performance/recording - AND DAW type of workflows.

Hi Deepak --

I get what you mean about a looper.

In the meantime, maybe try the Chord Looper, assuming that your keyboard supports it (e.g., Genos or SX900). While the progression is looping, you can turn parts ON and OFF in the mixer, record to audio, or whatever. It's a pretty flexible aid for composition.

All the best -- pj
