Tyros 2 no power
« on: May 06, 2021, 11:27:24 AM »
I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me resolve the problem I'm having with my Tyros 2.  The keyboard does not turn on when I press the power button.

Thank you!

Paul

It can be many different things. The power cable may be broken, or the power button. Is the keyboard dead, or do the lights turn on but no sound?

If not done, already, you can try to do a soft reset: hold down the rightmost key on the keyboard whilst turning on the power. I would also check the power supply (and cable) by measuring the voltage of the output (with a multimeter).

Toril S and Johan - thanks for responding.  Power cable is not broken. keyboard is dead. It does not turn on, no lights or sound.

Reset did not work. I will check the output of the PS....Thanks!

You might find this useful for fault finding :-

Thanks for your suggestions

ibrox2 - are you saying to check the fuse on the plug of the power cord. There is no fuse on the power cord.
The power button appears to be working ok.

Arnak - thanks for the link

Johan - I just did the reset again and this time it worked. Power to the T2 turned on. Thanks so much for your help.

Do you know why this happened?

I guess you are not in the uk, where all power plugs are fused.

Paulz,

I am glad that your Tyros is alive again! As the reset did not work the first time, I don’t think it was the reset that solved the issue. My guess is rather that your keyboard was suffering from static electricity and by waiting one or a few days, the problem solved itself (technical view: an electric  charge on the internal capacitors prevented your device from starting up and by waiting some time, the charge disappeared due to leakage current and maybe also due to the fact that from time to time your pressed the power button). This is only a personal guess but most important is that the issue is solved.

The Tyros power switch is a very basic and simple circuit. I might be inclined to think that the cord end that plugs into the Tyros may have worked its way out a bit and lost connection to provide the keyboard with power. Perhaps in your troubleshooting you may have pushed the cord back in and re-established the connection(?). I've had this happen to me on occasion with this type of connector on a cord. There is a fuse, but it's internal and not accessible to the average user. Switch contacts can get dirty occasionally and prevent power from passing through, so that may be a possibility as well and by pushing it a few times it could have 'cleaned' its contacts.
If the loss of power should occur again try pushing the cord connection in to ensure its snugly seated.
Good to hear it's working again  :)

To all,

Thanks very much for your input. Your help was very much appreciated.

I think the cause of the problem was a corrupted file. The factory system reset fixed the issue.

Thanks once again!
