Hi there Tyros 5 players!

I am just curious to know.....

I upgraded from a very old Yamaha with a floppy drive to a tyros 5 about 3 months ago....and I know this is going to sound crazy but I prefer the sounds of the pianos on my old keyboard ! (There I’ve said it) I find the tyros pianos a bit harsh or dare I say muffled ....I only use one piano sound as all the others sound muffled I can’t really explain what I mean like not crisp. I also find when playing just piano keys and no accompaniment that the sound is harsh and it gyrates on me to the point where I’ve stopped playing Classical piano pieces now.
I’ve tried fiddling with the dsp, sustain, touch response etc.
Does anyone else find this ?

Are you playing through a monaural amplifier or listening on monaural earphones?  If so, that would explain the muffled sound of piano voices or any voices that are intended to be heard in stereo.

You can also use the voice set feature to give the piano more debth amd reverb. The piano sounds on T5 are actually very good. I suspect that the reason that you like the sound from your old keyboard better is because the sound was crisper icoming from the built in speskers. Of the old keyboard. I felt the same going from my 2100 to the T5.

Hear are two posts you should listen to and compare with your piano sound.
The first is a thread on piano sounds which compares different models. Read through.

The second is a recent post by a very fine piano player.

Listen to these through decent stereo headphones, and compare to what your keyboard sounds like. If it sounds like these, then that is the best you are going. To get!!
But If it doesn’t sound like these, then something is wrong. Start investigating why,  by scanning down the the first post till you find the midi posted. Copy and load it into your Tyros and see how that sounds.
Let us know what happens,
Mike

Can you or someone else advise on voice set parameters for the piano on the Tyros5?
Thanks
