Hello friends :)
I was doing some settings in Harmony/echo, but I must have inadvertantly done something wrong, for I have triggered a mad bell shaking sound on variation four of my cha cha styles! It is driving me cryzy, I am pulling out my hair, and I have tried a soft reset of the keyboard, but the sound is still there! Please help, or I won't have any hair left!
Can you please look at this style for me and help me get rid of the mad sleybell sound in variation 4?

Re: Please help me to get rid of mad bell sound - mysteriously solved!
« Reply #1 on: March 15, 2021, 12:51:54 AM »
I have been able to solve it! What I did was:
I called up the preset cha cha style, pressed variation 4 where the problem was, and the problem was gone. Then I called up the style with the problem, and it now acted normally. I have had some problems with drum kits cating up, after I have changed styles. This also happened some times on my S975, so I guess it is a known problem. Please let me know is any of you have been having this issue.

Strange behavior with that error Toril!

Did you try a full reset using powering up the keyboard while depressing the rightmost white key and the 3 rightmost black keys at the same time (i think thats the full reset fot all yamahas)

Yes, but the error came back. Since this only happens with one style I am beginning to think I accidentally have linked the style to the crazy sleybells in a registration.

Yes, I suspect you've used the Drum Setup function with the style and accidentally modified the drum sound. If so, good news is you can open the affected style in the style creator and either fix it with style assembly (if you want the identical pattern from the preset style) or drum setup (to just fix the one duff note)

(I don't think you can save drum setup changes in a registration, so you'd have to have modified the saved style itself.)

Hi Toril,
Go to style edit and in Drum set up just delete the offending drum then re-save the style.

Thanks Derek and Eileen. The strange thing is that if I load the preset style and then go back to the style with the offending bells, the bells are gone. So it can't be that I added them myself. I have several songs that use this style, and I have named the style with the song name. ALL these styles no have the offending bell. What to do? I use this style a lot, and I don't know how to use style creator.

I agree with Derek and Eileen.  Some how a drum note got changed or the drum kit message (in the style file) got changed and is playing a different drum kit on variation 4 when saved as a user style.  So maybe you can start with the original preset style again and name it something else.

NOTE: There can be Voice and Drum Kit messages imbedded in each variation of the style. Some styles you will find Voices change with each variation.

Hello friends. I have posted a link to the style in the original post. Can you please take a look at it and help me get rid of the madly ringing bells in variation four. I have several song names on this style, and all of them now got this madness! I don't use registrations, I just name the styles with the songs. I have no clue how I got ghis, as I don't use style creator either! But I adjusted some harmony settings on another style yesterday, and the problem came after that!

I just played the chachacha style from another USB stick, this style is NOT modified in any way, but the mad bells still are there!
So it must be a setting on the keyboard that I accidentally have disturbed. It happens only with this style. No matter what I call it, when the keyboard sees this styles, off start the bells when I press variation 4. So all my "songstyles" that use this style is now useless. I am not happy now! Please help!

If you haven't tried. Go into your MIDI settings and select MIDI OFF and see if that helps. I've had this happen many times and turning the MIDI off (then you can turn it back on) helps.

It seems like the ringing sleybell sound that you get when changing variations somehow got stuck on variation four, ringing constantly. This only happens wiht one perticular chacha style. It doesn't matter if I load the style from different USB sticks, or with different names, they all get this error as soon as loaded on the keyboard. Please help!

Hi Toril

There is something wrong with that style file ....

If I choose another style first, then switch to this one, it seems to select a different kit every time for rhythm1 and 2. Is it possible you've linked it to a non-preset drumkit (from an expansion pack, or a copy of the kit you saved and then deleted) and when that kit is not available on the keyboard, you get random results?

Yes, Derek, there is something strange going on with the drumkits and ths style. Never a problem before. I do not know what happened, but maybe you are right, and it somehow got linked to the wrong drum kit. Glad you also got errors, then it s the style and not he keyboard that is crazy!

Toril,

Is the bell noise coming from channel 9 or channel 10?

OK,

There was no specific kit assigned to either of the drum channels so I assigned the (Legacy) Live Standard Kit to both channels 9 and 10.  See if that fixes the problem.

Hi Toril
the sound of the bells comes from rhythm 2 which is set to schlagerkit.
I replaced the drumkit with Poplatin2dkit and the annoying sound disappeared ...

Hi Toril,

I looked into the Style "ChaChaCha.S722.sty" you linked in the first post:

I guess that this annoying "bell" sound you mentioned is just a "Cup Ride" cymbal sound which is programmed in the following Style sections (on Channel 10 / Rhy2):

Intro 3
Main D
Fill-in D
Break
Ending 3

You can use the Drum Setup feature (e.g. on Genos) to change this "Cup Ride" cymbal sound to e.g. a standard "Ride" cymbal sound. If desired, you could also  set this "Ride" cymbal a little quieter (with the "Level" parameter).

Another way is to use "MixMaster": I just changed all "Cup Ride" notes (Note#53 = F2) to "Ride" (Note#51 = D#2). You can download the edited Style here:
>>> https://www.dropbox.com/s/94xpxudvhonn9ca/ChaChaCha_Chris.S722.sty.zip?dl=0

(Don't forget to unzip the downloaded file first.)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

I have just given it a good try in my Genos and it is working fine. Are you using a registration bank with this if so Check the split point. If this is out you may be hearing a voice from your right hand settings.

I'm now certain this is because the style is trying to use a drum kit voice that it can't find. So it reuses one from a previously loaded style. The fix is to use style creator to reselect an appropriate kit for each rhythm part in each of the style sections, then resave the style.

I think you are right about that.

StyleMagic showed Bank Select and PC messages for an unknown Kit. MSB = 127, LSB = 000, PC = 081 (in the list screen) The Drum Kit message was located in the first measure (SInt Section) of the style. There were no other drum kit messages in other Sections. So I assigned the Legacy Live Standard Kit. To be honest, I never played the style, so Toril will have to assign a drum kit that sounds appropriate.  I will also note that it is a SFF1 format style, so that means it originated from an earlier model keyboard. So the key is to know what keyboard this style originated from and look in the Data List book to determine what drum kit is used.

Friends, you are fantastic. The style is from the PSR 2100. I had no problem with the style that I transferred from the 2100. But I started using a version from one of the style collections and all the drum sound problems started. So I guess the style from the collection was messed up.

Eileen, it depends what style you've been playing just before playing Toril's one. Because the keyboard is selecting drum kits based on that, since it can't find the kit specified in Toril's style file itself. Sometimes the style sounds fine, and sometimes it sounds terrible  :)

I looked things up in the PSR2100 Data List book.  The 2100 uses the "Sty Standard Kit" (MSB 127, LSB 000, PC 80) for that style. StyleMagic displays Plus 1 for Program Change numbers (like our keyboards do) So it shows PC 081.

Obviously the drum note mapping is different on that keyboard than the newer models. Toril might try assigning the XG Legacy Standard Kit to that style and see if that fixes the problem.
