Music rest replacement
« on: February 11, 2021, 11:18:42 AM »
Good morning everyone,
After starting with the Psr 2100, the S900, s950, s970 now the sx900 I am finally taking the leap upwards to a yamaha flagship. The Genos will soon be on its way to me! A lightly used Genos.
Am I excited? You bet your sweet bippy I am.
One thing missing from the deal however is the music rest/music stand.
I need help in finding one for purchase.
I will appreciate if any know how and from where I can get one.
Thank you
Jim
Best Wishes,
Jim

Yes I agree Eileen,
I doubt I’ll find one except to contact Yamaha itself.
If anyone has a ph number for a Yamaha rep here in the states I’d appreciate that
Thank you

Hi all,
I use a regular music stand in front of my SX900.  Holds heavy music books and can read music just fine.  Beats the flimsy plastic stand (attached to the keyboard) that comes with the keyboard.  Just my thoughts.
Stay safe,

Most Genos retailers in the UK have them in stock, no reason why the USA should be different.

The stand from my Yamaha P155 piano is exactly the same as the Genos stand - although of course you will need the brackets.

Music rest from the Tyros 4 is exactly the same as well. But you will need the Genos brackets they are totally different from Tyros.

Thank you all for your replies.
As I have never had the opportunity to see anything above the PSR line I know nothing of these brackets either. Do they need to be attached vs coming already attached?
I haven’t received the keyboard yet, but it will be here later today. Guess I’ll find out soon enough

Hi Jim

I would be very surprised if the the Genos turns up without the music rest, however if for some reason it is missing you will need a couple of small brackets for the Music rest.

Yamaha Genos Music Rest Bracket ZW758800 x2 required.

The model number for the actual rest is given in my earlier post.

The bracketts are super easy to mount, just slide the two pins into the the corresponding holes on the Genos.

Jim, do you tend to place thicker music books on your keyboard stands? If so and you don't care if you get a Genos stand, I would invest in a decent music stand that can sit behind the Genos. They are likely far cheaper than what you'll pay for one from Yamaha as a "replacement part." Just a thought.

Bill is also correct. It likely comes with a Genos stand, unless they forgot.

Lee, I think for me the Yamaha rest is ideal
I like the fact that it is clear and can provide some visibility with the audience when Covid-19 allows for it again. Also I came across these music rest “extensions” which excite me. Allowing greater flexibility in the positioning of the rest
See link

Please be aware these rest extensions are OK as long as you don't want to use them on the outer holes, they don't fit particularly tightly on Genos fitting and with a thick book they will tilt forward whilst your playing drop the book straight onto the keyboard.
They are fine as long as you only use the first couple of holes.

I sell a version of these in the UK.  They are in UK Ebay, very heavy books can make the rest sag a bit, but not too much.  I do a version for Angled keyboard positions too, The holes in mine are nice and tight, and they are matched to the Yamaha stand features too, so pretty good.

Thanks Drew, that's good to know in advance.  Since they are simply 3D printed, I would hope that the seller has received some feedback by now and made some slight adjustments in the program.  If not, I might try applying a coating (and first letting it dry and cure) to see if I can make the connection more secure.

Regarding the music rest itself, (not the brackets), it seems to be unavailable here in the states. And uk stores are not allowed to ship to the states as per Thomann when I tried to get through them.
I need to order them through Yamaha directly which is so far proving difficult. I will eventually succeed I'm sure.

Well at this point I can not place the order at all.
When I try, under availability, it says "Contact Me".
I proceeded to place the order. It appears in my cart but in red letters it states "Associate will contact you".
I still could proceed to checkout, placed my shipping info, but I could not get past the billing section due to it not allowing me to input the billing address.
I guess I need to wait to be contacted and who knows how long that will take or in what manner they'll try to contact me.
I am frustrated. If I were in the UK I could just purchase it through any number of stores.
Why is it so difficult finding and purchasing one here in the states?
I apologize for the rant but needed to vent.
I hope all are well
thanks to all,
Jim

This US retailer doesn't list the music rest for the Genos, but does have a few others for Yamaha keyboards. Perhaps give them a call and see if they could get it for you. The price for a Tyros music rest is $127, so I suspect one for the Genos would be close in price if not a bit more.

https://www.fullcompass.com/searchresults.php?search_simple=true&txtAll=music+rest#/?keywords=music+rest&undefined=undefined&force_sku_search=1&search_return=all&Brand=Yamaha

I've bought a few parts for different music gear from Full Compass and they are a reputable retailer that's been around for a while.

Hi Jim,

you could post a wanted ad for the Genos music rest (including the needed mounting brackets) in your local newspaper. In my experience, many (professional) musicians do not use the supplied music rest at all, as they use an iPad for text or score display or use a different music stand.

Best regards,
Chris

Maybe the music stand for the Yamaha P120 digital piano is the same used with Genos and Tyros. Probably you need to move a little bit the pins. The picture looks almost identical.

On Ebay USA is available from alto music and kraft music

Reading the reviews from Alto Music, someone says it fits perfectly for a Tyros 4.

Dear Jim,

today I've incidentally found it on Ebay Italy at a very good price. Shipping cost to Italy is about 8 Euros.

Here is the link:

The stand from my Yamaha P155 piano is exactly the same as the Genos stand - although of course you will need the brackets.

I also thought the P120/155 music rest was the same. It's not... the spacing of the pins is about 1.5cm different, so it *won't* fit.

The Tyros 1,2,3,4,5 and Genos music rests are the same stand, yes, but the mounting pins are different
