Phantom of the Opera,
« on: January 05, 2021, 09:25:02 AM »
Happy New Year Everyone,

Francesco has kindly shred some of his styles, I especially like the Soprano voice.  I'm thinking of learning and arranging The Phantom of the Opera using thee Soprano in some arts, I think it will be awesome.

Can anyone suggest the voices to use for the real heavy introduction parts, it sounds like church organ mix to me,

There are a lot of talented members on here, how about making this a group effort, share a little, make our own version and see what everyone comes up with in the final version.  It would be really good to see what everyone comes up with,

Best Wishes,

Colin

Hi Colin,
Happy New Year my friend :)

I don't know if they way that I have chosen to play that song can help you with some ideas about some sounds that can be used.
I liked the pipe organ for a "creepy" kind of sound and the (Classical orchestra) horns for a "pompous" sounding for the male voices.
Although I haven't taken into account in who is really talking and in what order in the song.
The "order" of the voices(without words) just matched musically to me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zliBet3boVY

You need something sweet, innocent and soft for the female voice and i guess a nice soprano voice will do.

The registration is here:
https://app.box.com/s/xg8663wgwl9xtb9yyqt7nzuh4w9omwti

Just be careful, I have transpositions in the reg buttons not to have to memorize to play the same pattern in 5 scales.
Of course you can change whatever you want though from the reg buttons to match the potentials of the Genos' preset or pack voices.

A slightly modified preset style that I used is here:

Hi Panos,

When I load the Registration it suggests the data did not load correctly,  I have downloaded it twice with the same result,  Please advise,

Hi Colin,
can you try to play the reg in the Yamaha Registration Manager?
It is maybe because it is from another model,or maybe someone else can make the reg work for the Genos and upload it again?

https://psrtutorial.com/util/best.html

I probably watched this midi on how the music goes, then just improvised on how the parts should change using transpositions:
https://app.box.com/s/uah49znhdvm1hjvgbeogkycku529k9s8

As long as I have used transpositions in the registrations, the midi recorder would played back and displayed the whole cover in just one key.
So I had to do an audio recording and hoped for the volumes of the sounds and the equalizer wouldn't sounded really bad on the computer.

But before the recording I made a test midi recording to see what the midi players is recording and to keep the basics of the sheet music and the chords that I have chosen:
https://app.box.com/s/uxf6wq1b6zxne6tk7cr613mi19k92sar

If you play that midi on your Genos, make sure you will display the sheet in the key of Dm(there is an option on your screen to do that).

The melody (right hand) channels are 1 and 3.
While I have used the harmony for the sounds(so it adds more notes),for each part of the song display the one with the lesser notes.
(You can press pause and display another channel)

The chord symbols will all be displayed
(The basic melody goes Dm,Gsus4,Gm,C,Dm
afterwards Dm,Bb,Gm,C,Dm and at the end of this part Bbdim,Gdim7,Edim7 and back to Dm.And maybe some "extra" chords were used at the end of each part to help me move to a new key).

I am not sure though, if I have the right to tell you how to play the song because there may be better and more "pro" chords to choose and I don't want to confuse you.

p.s.
By the way the exact notes and beautiful intro of the song we first heard them on Pink Floyd's Echoes.

Don't know if this helps: The Phantom sheet music is available through Music Sales (recently taken over by Hal Leonard) with ISBN 0-7119-1160-6 or from the Really Useful Group PLC as order number RG10013. The music has chords, lead and accompaniment staves with all the words. The gender of the singers is shewn by their name. I'm not sure, though whether Firmin is a bloke or a woman!

As noted by Colin, it would be great to be able to get a download of the score. Went to Music Scales using the ISBN but that was for a book of scores not just  Phantom. I already have a Phantom score but I think it is an abridged version. Would be good to get a full score inc chords etc. Note, not looking for freebies here, don't mind paying for a score but £17 for a book full of others that I may never play is a bit expensive when I just wnat a single score.  8)

Now have a CVP 809 as my wife plays Piano but not Keyboard - I had to PX a Genos to buy it, Also have an SX700 - I did previously own a Tyros.
