I'm no expert on Yamaha's way of thinking, but it seems like they don't do upgrades other than firmware and software.   They save upgrades for new models, which appear about  2 years after the first model of similar specs.   So the 2019 PSR-SX900 was an updated PSR-S975 from 2018,  which was an updated PSR-S970 from 2015.

By that measure, we shouldn't expect a re-modeled PSR-SX900/700 until 2021 or 2022, but Covid probably has slowed down development.   Maybe it will be called the PSR-SX905/705 or something like that.   Who knows.

Everything you hear here will only be speculation.

You will see a decent OS update (ie, new features) next year.

A new model won't be out until 2024.

Cheers,
Fred

I am not expecting to see an update like we had on our Genos keyboards as the SX900 already has some of them like chord Looper and Reset/Tap tempo. They have also made there expansion packs free for everyone now. What updates were you hoping for.

Some upgraded input jacks and at least two more added , one for on/off foot controller to the vocal harmonizer and separated mic/ guitar inputs , just a wasted to have one without the other !!

What about functions, Rec'n'Share, and Unison & Accent? It would be nice if you add these functions to the SX900 in an upcoming firmware update. Regards. Hans

Hi all
have the possibility of being able to take advantage of a midi pedal to control the style section like the tyros.
I believe that at this price it should not even be a problem.
P.S
its my last Yamaha

I'm expecting the Unison & Accent feature from the SX600 on SX700/900 (and Genos?) along with a dozen new styles especially those that cater to that new Unison & Accent feature. It's a software-only feature so it should technically work considering all 3 are from the "SX" series, doesn't make sense to have an exclusive feature on a lower-tier SX600... just like what Yamaha did with Chord Looper function - Introduced it with SX900 as a launch feature and then after 6 months or so added that to the Genos, too.

Regards,
Chris

Hi all
Happy NY!
I just took delivery of my PSR-SX900 today and joined this amazing forum. Such a good resource to have besides the reference manual.
I'm absolutely blown away by this keyboard having updated from a PSR-S750.
In terms of v 2.0 updates, I would like to see the ability to play one's own chords in intros and endings. Think the Korg Pa series do that.

I was thinking about this too. Also would be nice if Yamaha puts voices like megavoice pop horns 1 and pop horns 2 and for the sx700 players along with more voices like live Bee Vabrato from the sx900 so sx700 players that don’t need to upgrade to the 900 can have additional factory voices.

Yes, but it'll be weird for the voice guide function.
yamaha extentions files styles for keyboards are as follows:
pst (pianist); pcs(piano combo); sst (session); prs (pro); bcs(basic); fps (free play) and scp (dj style).

Doubt Yamaha will add anything new. It's all maintenance updates/bugfixes.

It seems to me that Yamaha would make a serious, but very serious mistake if it abandons the users of the SX series, since these arrangers are not cheap in many parts of the world. I think that the best way to keep your consumers happy should be with more updates of their software, versions 2.0 and 3.0, and of course, continue creating expansion packs of all kinds of music and why not think about more 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music.

I think that Yamaha should consider that position, because that is how it has abandoned several of its consumers, such as the S series at the time. I think that several keyboardists should be organized to send an email of recommendations to Yamaha and hope to be heard. I hope so and we can have more updates with this great software on Genos and SX series.

Yamaha have never worked that way on S Series keyboards. You will have to wait for the next keyboard for any extra additions to come along.

Same for the oriental bassed PSR-A keyboards. Have 2 of them, plus a PSR-A5000 I want to purchase before I sell the oldest.
Past Yamaha keyboards that I now don't use: PSR-S710, PSR-A2000
Current Yamaha keyboard I use: PSR-A3000
Next, or future, Yamaha keyboard I will use: PSR-A5000
