Copying Voices from Packs
« on: November 12, 2020, 01:29:22 PM »
I copied a Uillean Pipes voice from a Pack to my USB then removed the Pack from the USER directory and now the Uillean Pipes from the USB doesn't work.

Is this expected?

Thx,

Hi NASAMike,

the 'Voices" in a Pack subfolder inside the "Expansion" folder on the User drive are only so called Voice Set files (.vce). These files are very small (1 - 5 KB). You can copy/save such a file to a location outside the Expansion folder, but you will get ... exactly the same file. You can use a .vce file to call up the corresponding Voice. But this only works when this Voice is correctly installed on the instrument.

Note:The .vce file is NOT the complete Voice (since the Wave data of an Expansion Voice is stored in the separate "Expansion Wave  NAND Flash" memory).

You cannot copy or export an Expansion Voice to a USB stick and use it while the original installed Voice or the whole Pack was deleted from the instrument.

The only option to save space in the Expansion Wave memory is to deselect unneeded Voices in the YEM and then install this "reduced" content on the instrument. But be careful: If a Pack also contains Styles, some of them could need such deselected Voices.

Best regards,
Chris

➪ Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
➪ Never put the manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

NASAmike,

If the only Voice you want is the Uillean Pipes, you have to create a new pack in YEM with just that one Voice.

The way to do that is as follows:
1. Export the Uillean Pipes as "Content". It will be saved as a .ppf file.
2. Create a new pack in YEM and then "Import" the Uillean Pipes .ppf as Content into the new pack and save.
3. You might save your new pack with the name Uillean Pipes.ppf
4. Add the Uillean Pipes pack to your other packs and create a new Installation file (.ppi) to load into your keyboard.

NOTE: You might be able to Import the Uillean Pipes (.ppf) Voice without having to create a new pack since the Export was saved in the .ppf format.

Another way of doing this is to DELETE all Voices in the pack except the Uillean Pipes Voice and save as a new pack called Uillean Pipes.ppf.

A 3rd way of doing this is to Import the Uillean Pipes.ppf into an existing pack and save the pack (Export) with a new name.

You can try any of the above ways I list above and let us know how it went.

BTW... the above process of Exporting Voices and Importing them into a new pack is the way to create a custom Voice pack taking Voices from different packs and combining them into a new pack.
