Light/Activation issue
« on: September 13, 2020, 09:38:45 PM »
Hi All,

I had an issue last year when my intro button was not working properly, it would not light up/activate some times if you hit it it would work or if you repeatedly tapped it and you were lucky it would work. This did not really bother me as I did not really use the intro button. However a couple of months ago I tried it again and the button fractured. I ordered a new button and just got it delivered and fitted it, however it’s still not activating right, out of taping it like 50 times only lit up once or twice.

I also have an issue where you have to apply slightly more force to the Ballad button that the rest

Wonder if you know a fix to this as I bought a Tyros 5 and looking to sell the tyros 2.

Sounds like the contacts are dirty or at fault.

Yes, there is a so called "Tact Switch" for each button. And these switches only have a limited service life. Frequently used switches (e.g. also the switches for the display buttons A - J) must therefore sometimes be replaced.

Best regards,
Chris

Any recommendations on the sorts of places to get this fixed?

Hi burns12,

you can download the Tyros2 Service Manual here:
>>> https://psrtutorial.com/lessons/workshops/ServiceManuals.html

In this Service Manual you will find the Part Numbers for the relevant switches.

The best thing would of course be to take the Tyros2 to an authorized Yamaha Service Point and have it checked out there. (Click on the "Support" tab on your local Yamaha website, then click on "Service Centers".)

It would of course be much cheaper for you if you could find an independent technician in your area who is familiar with Yamaha keyboards, who can then replace the switches in question.

You should only carry out this service work YOURSELF if you have a lot of experience with electronics work (and the soldering of such SMD components).

Here in Germany, we can buy spare parts for Yamaha keyboards e.g. from the company "Audio-Service.com":
>>> https://www.audio-service.com/asshop/shop.nsf/sts?open

You can also call your dealer or your local Yamaha office for a source of replacement parts.

P.S.
In some cases it can help to use a Vacuum Cleaner with a fine nozzle: Hold it on the defective button for a relative long time. Maybe you're lucky, and this will fix the problem (at least for a while).

Best regards,
Chris
