Couple of Questions About Plus Voices/Memory on S975
« on: August 10, 2020, 04:23:51 PM »
Hi,

1. It appears that the Plus Voices on the S975 are "preinstalled" expansion packs and are different for different parts of the world.  Can these Plus Voice packs be removed and replaced with other packs?

2. Is the 768MB expansion in addition to the preinstalled Plus Voice packs.  In other words, if the Plus packs can be removed, does that increase the expansion memory?

Thanks in advance.

Unlike the SX, they are preset voices with a dedicated panel button. I don't think you can erase them and replace with your own expansion data.

Well I'm hoping someone with a S975 will respond.  I also would like to know what packs are preinstalled as Plus Voices. I think I remember someone stating that the Euro Dance Pack is one.  How will I know what packs are installed on any given S975.  I'm thinking of buying one as an option to getting the sx900.

But I might just wait until the release of sx900 replacement to see what's new.  I hope Yamaha will have fixed the key bed problem on the next board (that has surfaced on the sx900).

Hello Joe H. The PLUS styles and voices can unfortunately not be removed. They are awful, I have not used a single one, but that is me. Others may like them. I believe it is a mix of several packs, but the Euro Dance Pack is in there. I don't like the PLUS button, because they have now put Latin and ballroom together. The S970 was more tidy. But the S975 is a very good keyboard! To my ears it is better balanced than the XS900.

Hi Joe,

all the PLUS contents (Voices, Styles and Multi Pads) of the S970 are listed in a separate Data List called "PSR-S975/PSR-S775 PLUS Contents List":

>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/7/1153397/psrs975_s775_en_de_fr_es_pluscl_a0.pdf

All those PLUS contents are in the Preset area. Therefore, only Yamaha could change these contents (by a Firmware Update).

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris,

I suspected that with a dedicated button, the packs are in ROM. Looks like one of the packs is the Euro Dance pack Voices, styles and Multi Pads.  Do you know what the other pack is?

Since I currently have the Euro Dance pack, I wouldn't need to install it, so that's makes room for other packs along with the 50% more expansion memory over the S970.

I will wait for the sx900 replacement before I decide what I will upgrade to.

;)
