Switch speakers on Genos
« on: July 24, 2020, 10:52:48 AM »
Hi
Along time now since i got satisfied with my setup. I may have asked a similar question way back
The only thing  is that to use my Pa DX 100 speakers at home and my Focal Alpha monitors, i have to take the jack leads out the Main output socket and change
over to the other speakers
So ones for normal listening and Monitors for recording
I tried the AUX out but that has a fixed ouput and i do not want to chance anything like impedance.
Is there a simple switch box that i can put the two sets of output leads into and out to speakers ?.
So it would be PA and studio monitors switchable.
I do not want anything complcated ,just do that job.
Any help would be appreciated

I have looked at the Mackie knob, but that controls volume as well , but it does not mention pa speakers.
I am not an electrician but Impedance and things like that have to be right i think.
I do not want to blow my room up or destroy what i have got BANG!! ::)
Last time i had a mishap was when i connected about five car speakers around my room to a Dancette record player when  16 years old.
A blinding flash happened and that made a massive black mark up the wall playing  Happy Jack by the Who.
I got surround sound for about 1 minute. Dad was not happy that i ruined the wallpaper. ::) :P :-X

All The Best
JOHN :)

I have had so many issues with audio out on so many boards....which is the best option ??

In the end i settled for a VERY easy solution ...well for me it was ...

I just use headphones out as its stereo and its reliable ...On a single lead and if i need more connections from that ....i just have a cheap multi adaptor hub with several outputs from there and i can use as many of these connections I like.

i wont be going back to using any other forms of audio out

Not saying this particular one , but this is the same as the one i use for multi connection...cheap as chips and ok -

Hi Bill and Blackpool

The links you have supplied seem to be for hi-fi gear phono leads. Thanks for helping much appreciated..
I need one with jack leads out of the main of Genos  to a box with jack sockets then out to each pair of speakers switchable A+B, so i do not have to keep plugging in and out.
I am just concerned what type of box do i need as i do not want to have any problems.

All the best

Hi John,
I'm curious as to why you need 2 sets of speakers if all work is in the home. I use my (HS8) monitors for listening whether to live play (having ensured the mix provided by the registrations sound the best on them) or recording.
Do you not consider your monitors good enough to listen to?
But surely they must be top notch to justify using them for recording purposes otherwise if you use a second, "better" speaker set you'd need to do some extra mixing with it, or so the logic suggests   ;) ...... hence the curiosity.

Hi John
One is Flat and the other is coloured
I use the DXR's to have coloured sound and mix on headphones first and then on The Focal Alpha's to finalize  and a recheck on the headphones using Sonarworks.
I am just finishing my first real effort or serious effort, then check in car and hi-fi. to complete HOPEFULLY!! ;D

All the best
