When I click on the link, I get a popup titled PRICE CHANGE ALERT, stating exactly that: packs free as of 6/30. It may be your browser settings that are stopping the popup.

Of course, maybe the website's been hacked, but we'll see.

If you have an ad blocker install on your browser, it will keep the popup showing.  Fred may be right though... why would Yamaha offer their expansion packs for free.  The popup does not say for a limited time. just that expansion and voice packs will be free.

Here's what it says:

 Price Change Alert!

Starting 6/30, Yamaha Music Soft Premium Pack & Voices & Voice & Style Expansion Packs will be free.
If you have any questions please contact Customer Support for details at (866) 430-2652.

Actually, Easy Sounds packs are available for purchase through Yamaha on the Yamaha MusicSoft website:

https://uk.yamahamusicsoft.com/sound-and-expansion-libraries

I can't see Yamaha will be giving those away for free.

Perhaps, it's just their own they'll be giving away.

Cheers

It doesn't seem to make sense to me and seems suspicious. Why offer all their expansion packs free from next week - it means that nobody is going to buy any between now and then, so why not offer it free from now?

(I don't get the pop window either).

Makes me wondering why there is still no grand piano expansion pack available...
You would think Yamaha itselves would offer a bösendorf imperial..
And 3rd party would offer a Steinway soundset?

I only see 2 packs of upright sounds...

I don't get the popup message so I can't comment on that.

They did give away some of these older packs as part of the "Genos Superior Pack", so there is precedent. It would nice if they gave away one of the bigger packs like vintage keys or celtic, but I can't see that happening :)

Hi Eileen
I am still buried in learning at the moment and will be on the clubs once i get over the hump.
I just shelled out for Samplerobot and the things that can be done with that will save you buying packs.
If you have a computer and a host of vst's, sky is the limit
Robinez and Sokratis has been helping me and with  the now auto mode a few weeks learning and you will be sampling.
I have had one success and three failures so far but that is pilot error where i forgot to follow instructions to the letter. In other words , i bungled!! ;D
Samplerobot does a great  job in cloning vst to sf2 to put in your packs.
Sounds now can be endless and loads more possibilities as well. you do not have to fiddle in Yem with zones . You just have to put a little release or a little tarting with the sliders and bingo.
The Genos can only cover so much and male choirs are not good on Genos.
So i look to Vst and it ain't arf bad.
You need to listen to Robinez Alicia Keys piano and it makes sense to go for Samplerobot
I have looked at others but it exports to a load of formats as well and to me it is a no brainer.
If you are happy with Genos only that is also ok.
I have set a goal to reach before my 70th birthday next March.

All the best

MAYBE, they are realizing that we are paying well enough money to buy the arrangers, and they want us to continue?  Korg periodically gives away new Style packages, usually twice a year.

As keyboards improve in sound quality many of us no longer use some of the sample packs as the on board voices are great for most peoples use and with a little tweak in voice set can produce some really good quality voices.

Definately true..

However... many of the expansion sounds still fit in well as they are quite unique

But at the current Yamaha prices, i dont think many people would easilly spill €160 on a pack from which they want 4 or 5 voices..

I read somewhere, but I wasn't able to confirm this with other source, that every register user now download only two (2) free packs every year.
The source mention some "fine print"
Since I'm also unable to see any pop-up (maybe is the ad-blocker as mentioned above) I can't confirm anything by my self and I was unable to find another reliable source to confirm.
If some-one see the pop-up maybe it worth investigate more if actually there is "fine print"

Starting June 30 but for how long?
I assume it will be only the Yamaha product and not including KaPro etc.
I am wondering if the reason is because most of the product is already in the Genos or maybe not.

Hi Bachus

I made a sample of a choir from Sampletank 4 after starting out with help from Sokratis and Robinez. I cant thank them enough. Great guys.
Made a pack and put that in there.
I then transferred to the Genos with all the other packs as usual and they are in my expansion underneath the Genos. 64 gig stick enough to keep me happy until i need another ;D
I can pick any sound from there and even put it in a registration.
The thing is the pathway has to be known by the registration, so you choose Expansion, USB 1 Or Usb 2 or internal. No different to a computer and an external drive.
You can play sounds from any usb stick, but they will disappear when you take the stick out. It will work again when you put that stick back in again.
Once you make lots of registrations and loaded up with sounds back them up on a Terrabyte drive and associate all parts with a song and registration.
If you have a computer back that up to a terrabyte drive  also. Everything is failsafe then.
I got caught out once when my Music computer went down. Never again. This time i got a computer built for the job with 32 gig of ram to future proof for a while as Arturia ,Sampletank etc uses quite a bit of the computer. My I7 runs like a dream and never coughs  " I will have to touch wood now" or hope sods law does not get me!!   English expressions!!
Sample Robot is  unbelievable for what it does, hence being £240. Worth every
Euro :)
As i said you can get it cheaper for the Montage (tip!!!)  I think you can also look it up on the Yamaha site as they work in conjunction with Samplerobot.
Push the boat out Bachus and go for it.
We are not like James Bond  "We Only live Once"!! 8)  "Yes Miss Moneypenny"!! ;D
Hope you take fools gladly Bachus!! :) :P

I'm not sure I am following you john.

If you are creating sf2 samples, and loading them to genos via yem, then the sf2 samples are going into the 3gb expansion memory. You might be creating voice files on usb but you're still going to fill up your expansion memory pretty soon with all those sf2 files.

Unless I'm mistaken and you have a way to play your sf2 samples from usb without creating a yem install pack first?

Hi Derek and Bachus .
Yes i got it slightly wrong but i cannot see a problem.
From what i can see there is enough room for loads of sounds.
I am not into too much tech jargon, i just want to get on with it before i am B flat diminished :D
If i run out of memory , i would take files that i need out of the packs and create a custom packs.
The Genos has loads of great sounds anyway.
If you have vst and Genos no problem at all in my view.
If you play gigs ,just load in what you need for the sets.
I purchase Sample Robot for those extra sounds that you cannot achieve on the Genos, then you can play them on the fly.
For the seroius stuff ,go Cubase..
The possibilities are endless.

All great fun !! :)

Its much easier to use those vst’s on mainstage in combination with the Genos, then having to take the time to sample them and continously having to manage my Yem..

When you use sample robot for multi sampling with more vellocity layers on every 3 keysto get accurate sounds, then its quickly becomming a memmory hog..

Also when you sample a sound from a synth engine its quickly becomming static in nature...
as an example, when i create sounds one of the things i often do is use keyboard vellocity (how hard i strike the key) to drive the filter cutoff. This makes the sounds much more dynamic..its hard to do such in the Genos..

Hi Bachus
You can still play registration sounds from USB.
If you make folders for pads, sounds registrations with all content on usb,all pathways are there.
I think is is what gig discs do as well
It is all the do with the pathways.
Also with Samplerobot you still get hard and soft when you apply key pressure
I am not sure how it works but i think the Genos has something to do with it
Yes it does work on one velocity layer
Also i was given help and and had an example of adding volume high and low to the pitch bend wheel to give choirs that rising in sound.
You also tweak and do more in Yem.
I cannot praise Sample Robot enough. Amazing program.
I may get a few things wrong  but i am on the right track unless someone changes the points and de-rails me. ;)
It's not so hard to be humble.

All the best

Also when you sample a sound from a synth engine its quickly becomming static in nature...
as an example, when i create sounds one of the things i often do is use keyboard vellocity (how hard i strike the key) to drive the filter cutoff. This makes the sounds much more dynamic..its hard to do such in the Genos..
you can modify that behavior for the most common parameters in YEM, so it's not always nessecary to sample more velocities. For instance your example (velocity to filter cutoff) is a setting in yem that you can add to the preset and even the Envelopes of the filter (which is used very often during programming sounds) can be added in YEM.

The static in nature remark about sampling can be solved with some clever sampling features during the sampling and added synth programming in YEM.

For instance in this demo i created you hear all kind of moving pads starting at 1.50. All these sounds (including the ambient pianos) are from my own expansion packs i created in samplerobot and YEM. Although the Genos has very limited synth editing features, you can achieve a lot if you fix this before sampling when you program your own sounds. If you export the same sounds to the Korg Pa4x then off course you can do a lot of extra things in the substrative synthesizer that it has, which takes it even a lot further.

With almost 4 gigabyte of expansion space in the Genos you can add hundreds of sounds before running out of space. I have added so many sounds that i lost count, so in my opinion the memory size is not a real issue considering the amount of expansion space.

Hi Eileen
Robinez is right, key pressure on my first effort was there when auto sampling, but there is  a little more in the program to learn in stages.
I had a go at two sample layers and sokratis took my samples to show me how he does it as he is been using it for some time.
When i got them back they sounded great  Some release added and a little touch sense i noticed had a  little manipulation and the result is 100%.
Robinez has also helped me and i very gratefull for that.
I say again to anyone with  a Genos and VST and a Daw go for Sample Robot. I am sold on it.
There are also loads more creative things you can do with it once getting passed the first phase.
Bachus thinks that you cannot put registrations sounds etc to play from a usb drive or stick. I know it is possible as long as the right pathway is there.
Yes packs have to go in the Expansion, but there are ways.
You can load single sounds and registrations and pads from usb. Take the stick out and it disappears untill you put the stick back
I reckon gig disks are made in that way, but i do not gig. Home Studiois far more relaxing and you do not have to worry about ego. 8) "Cool Man"!!
Robinez is also 100% right in saying that you can put loads of sounds in the memory.
I you run out make Best of packs!!! ;D

all the best
John :) :) :)

While some people complain about YEM's editing limitations, there's a lot we can do.  As the saying goes... "it's not what you got, but how you use it"

I maxed out on my S970 expansion memory with hundreds of ambient and analog synth sounds.  It's great the Yamaha went in this direction isn't it.

We need better tools for style making though.  Yamaha can do only so much in satisfying a world market place. We need to be able to create our own styles as well as sounds. I think Yamaha understood the need for some arranger players to be creative.

If this infers you want to set velocities to precise values for multi sampling from Genos you can turn off Touch say for R1 then dial in the fixed velocity you want to apply for that sample/layer etc.
........ If it helps   :)

Hi Joe

EMC Style works was as Close as it gets to making styles the easy way.
I got suckered into that program which worked great for a year and when the Genos came out. It went BONK!!! ::) :P
Klaus took ages to update the program and when he did, it was so buggy. He has other business interests i'm afraid.
I have written to him, nothing really gets done. He wanted me to use winamp with the program. Still hopeless and when i load it up a pop up comes up telling of problems and will not run.
The program could of been great ,but Klaus has neglected the buyers in my opinion.
I do not want to use winamp. I wanted an update for the money i have paid. The program should of worked on it's own ,not shortcutting like old programs that borrowed dll's,which add to crashes.
It is possible with Stylemagic , but more involved and time consuming.
Stylemagic great for manipulating Styles and drums though. Easier than the Genos.

All the best
John :)
