Yes, Alan, of course Audacity can also handle MP3s (when an MP3 Codec like LAME is installed).
But: "MP3DirectCut" (as the program name already says)
cuts MP3 files DIRECTLY (
without decoding and new MP3 coding afterwards).
With any other Audio editing program (even with "Audacity"), when you load an MP3, that file first is (automatically) DECODED, only then you can EDIT the Audio data. And if you need the edited Audio data again in
MP3 format, the data must be re-encoded (which happens automatically when exporting Audio data as MP3 from Audacity). This re-encoding process (which in any case
reduces the Audio quality) can be avoided if you use "MP3DirectCut" to CUT MP3s.
