Editing in Audio Player
« on: April 25, 2020, 06:45:49 PM »
I have an original mp3 or wav file that has about 8 sec. of silence before the music starts. Is there a way to cut out some of that silence by editing in Audio Player on the Tyros 5?

In order to edit an audio file I would rather go for a DAW, like CUBASE e.g. or other DAWS like Cakewalk etc.

Editing features and other applications are sky high and can be done in a PC or MAC.

Hi bassgolf,

as mentioned by Babette before, no edits can be made to an Audio file directly in the Tyros5 Audio Player. If you have a Windows cómputer, you can use these programs:

For trimming MP3 files you can use "MP3DirectCut". The advantage of this program is that MP3 files can be cut directly here. So it is NOT necessary to first convert an MP3 to WAV format and then compress it again as MP3 file after cutting:

https://mpesch3.de/index.html#dwn

Note: If you should get an Error message when installing "MP3DirectCut", please right-click the setup file "mp3DC229.exe" and select "Run as Administrator"

Editing WAV files can be done with "Audacity":

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Agree with Chris here. Audacity is a good program and relatively easy to use.

If you have a Mac computer, Garageband is even better.

MP3 files can also be edited in Audacity.

Aye, I think you can edit pretty much anything in Audacity. Dunno about Garageband. It's new to me, Alan, still learning.

MP3 files can also be edited in Audacity.

Alan

Yes, Alan, of course Audacity can also handle MP3s (when an MP3 Codec like LAME is installed).

But: "MP3DirectCut" (as the program name already says) cuts MP3 files DIRECTLY (without decoding and new MP3 coding afterwards).

With any other Audio editing program (even with "Audacity"), when you load an MP3, that file first is (automatically) DECODED, only then you can EDIT the Audio data. And if you need the edited Audio data again in MP3 format, the data must be re-encoded (which happens automatically when exporting Audio data as MP3 from Audacity). This re-encoding process (which in any case reduces the Audio quality) can be avoided if you use "MP3DirectCut" to CUT MP3s. :)

Best regards,
Chris

Thank you for that. So much can take place within modern software that is totally invisible to my sensibilities. Ignorance is bliss.

Thanks for all your help.

I have used Garageband but I was just wondering if one could edit in Audio Player. That would be a nice feature!!

Hi bassgolf,

thanks for your feedback!

The only "edits" that can be made in the Audio Player are Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting (only useful within relatively small limits).

However, the result can NOT be saved as a new Audio file, only the offset values of the parameters mentioned can be memorized to a Registration (together with the Audio file).

Chris

The best way to solve this problem is to download and install a DAW, IMHO.

Cakewalk by BandLab : downloadable free of charge. ;)
Frequent updates are free of charge too.

Hopefully this DAW helps you out and will bring you a lot of additional usable features.

I am not aware if this prog is also available for MAC. To be checked.

Best regards, Babette

Hi Babette,

"GarageBand" (that was mentioned by bassgolf before) IS a DAW (available for macOS or iOS). ;)

Hello,
I agree that it's much easyer to remove the silence
at the beginning of an audiofile in a DAW on computer.
But it's possible to do this also in Tyros.
I have done this on Tyros a few years ago as an experiment
for helping a friend who doesn't own a computer.
Sinds 2017 I own Genos , so not having Tyros anymore I can't reproduce it.
But from what I remember one can set the startpoint & endpoint
thru "Multitrack" > "Mode" in the audiorecording section.
I think I remember I used the function "Nudge" and the "Data Entry wheel"
to set the points correctly.
More detail is to find in the "Reference Manual"
in the section "5 Audio Recorder/Player......"
on page 87 "Setting the start/end points of the audio...."
Best Regards

Hello Eddy,

Yes, one can set the start and end points in Multitrack but I don't think one can save the file that way.

Hello bassgolf,

Yes, I could save the file.
I don't remember correctly, but I think it went thru "Mixdown".
Had also  something to  do with "Conversion" from "AUD" to "WAV".
In Genos it has to be saved by "Export".
It works very simple by the keyboard but I prefer doing this by DAW on the PC.
