I have  an old version of BAND IN A BOX   on a CD from the past.   I recently installed it on my computer and now any styles with
a    .sty extension is now assigned to my styles that are also Genos styles. They are now renamed as Band in a Box Styles.  I tried removing the BIAB software but its styles still are listed as Band in A Box on all my styles on my computer.  Bob

Bob. The reason for this is when you installed BIAB you selected to associate STY to BIAB.

It's easy to do but my ageing brain is asleep at present...Search...Change file association.

Bob,

-- type "default apps" into Windows search box.
-- Choose default apps by file type
-- Scroll down to .sty
-- Click on Band in a Box, and choose a different program.

Cheers,
Fred

Thanks Graham and Fred but I was unable  to succeed with your suggestions .  Graham when I attempted to change the file association, that option was not on the drop down menu.
Fred when I reached .sty on the list and clicked Band in a Box a message  read no app associated with that file.   Bob

Genos!

Right click on any .sty file and right click "Open with" AND then "choose default program..."

From there you can assign your "associated" default program.

Thank you Genos.  The problem is, the associated program   C:/bb/BBW.exe/play"%1"
is no longer on my computer. It was removed and no other apps on the list are applicable. . Sorry, I neglected to mention it in my original post.  Bob

Bob88

A follow up question.   Normally what app would apply to a .sty file other than Band in a Box ?  Bob

You did mention this in your original posts.

Our advice doesn't change. What happened when you tried it?

Fred: I don't kmow how to make it any clearer . My computer is looking for the       BB.exe  install file.   Any of the apps listed as ones to associate with are those such as  Firefox,Adobe Itunes, Internet Explorer plus a host of others that have nothing
to do with Genos styles that I can see.   As I said indicated in my previous post   What app should apply to .sty files on my computer  that could be played on my Genos?  It should not be .sty - band in a box  as it is now. Bob

How is your computer "looking for" BIAB? It would do that only if you double-clicked on a .sty file. So, don't bother doing that.

I don't see the harm in having an association with a non-existing file type. It happens all the time. Just ignore it.

Or, just delete the association.

To answer your question, my .sty files are associated with MixMaster.

Genos!

ok, let's try something different...

Open an elevated command prompt and type the following:

assoc .sty=

And then type the following and follow the on-screen instructions:

ftype /?

edit:

If your head is spinning trying to find .sty in the ftype list, then type the following:

ftype > ftype.txt

And then type:

notepad ftype.txt

Use ctrl-F to find the assignment for .sty and use ftype to delete it.

If you can't find anything assigned for .sty then don't worry about it, you're done.

I linked my files with the .sty extension to the Simplified Style Player  ;).

Thanks to all who offered help re my post.   The problem is now not an issue
since all styles perfom properly on my Genos  irregardless of the chosen file
association and that's what counts.   Thanks for your persistence and patience. I learn something new everyday (Well- almost everyday). Regards,  Bob
