Features of 2 keyboards (Tyros 4/5 and EL-01/02)
« on: April 13, 2020, 09:36:14 AM »
Hello forum,

I wasn't sure where to post this as it refers to 2 different keyboards, but will post it here. Please feel free to move if its not in the right place  :)

I was watching Youtube the other day and stumbled on this fabulous version, IMHO, of "In the mood" originally by Glenn Miller, played on the Yamaha EL02C. It appears that this keyboard is much more expensive than my luvverly Tyros 4, so with that in mind, thought I may take the opportunity to ask a couple of questions, of which I am guessing the answers will be no, on both counts, LoL

My first question is from 1:07 on, I notice that the right hand upper manual voices change, and she doesn't appear to be changing any registrations to action the changes, so was wondering how this is achieved? Is it pre programmed by the player, say by bar count?
My second question is, is this  function possible on the Tyros 4, using the split keyboard function?

Sorry, I had another question as well. Does the EL01/02 series use the same .sty files?

Many thanks for any answers, and please stay safe during these very trying times!!!

Another fine performance by the same person on the same keyboard which i thought was spectacular as well

Watch the Registration button between the two keyboards...Player is continuing changing these as you can see the button light-up.
Registrations are being changed by foot pedal

Wow, Thanks Ed, that is pretty good, so that raises a point to my first question. is he using some sort of foot switch to change the voice registrations? or is there a lot of pre programming going on? At least I know my T4 is capable of this, (from a technical perspective) assumimg he hasn't got some sort of add on happening :-)

Edit: Now answered in his description! Now to find out more about the foot switch, LoL That would appear to make things so much easier

Statesman. On EL-01/02) there is a lever switch attached to the volume pedal.
Keyboards an additional pedal is required, there are a number of switch options provided in the keyboards menu.

Hi Statesman

take a look at this short demonstration
of using a foot switch to change registrations.

It shows a genos but the Tyros 4 works the same
follow Davids instructions about going into the menu,
and switching the sequence ON.

I have a tyros 4 and I use a FC5.

some use 2 pedals for going forward and backwards.
I just use one pedal and choose the order of of buttons I wish to use.
All very easy once you get it set up.

all the best

Hi Arthur, and thanks for the tip/link. I'll have a look at this. It does appear that there is some pre-programming involved, but shouldnt be too difficult to work out. I'll have to start looking out for a budget pedal (if one exists) but it will no doubt be proprietary, so Yamaha "Expensive" LoL  Cheers

I think had nothing to do with  a footswitch. Probably a midifile is playing along with it.
