SX900 crashed for a moment
« on: March 31, 2020, 04:17:31 AM »
Hi Guys, this afternoon when I was recording a MIDI arrangement on Mp3, I tried to stop the recording because I realized that I had forgotten to activate some tracks of the song, when suddenly my keyboard was blocked and the message that appears in the photograph appeared . I immediately turned it off and waited 5 minutes to turn the power back on. after this it continued to function normally. but I'm afraid it will happen again. Has this ever happened to you?.  What should I do in case it is repeated?. Thanks in advance for your reply.  Hans

Yes. It happened on my SX900 multiple times as I was trying to resolve the issue of trying to save Live Controls...as discussed in another thread. In my case, the registrations I was working on became corrupted. Each time I pressed the registration I got the error message and had to shut down and re-start. The solution was to delete the corrupted registrations.

It hasn't happened to me yet and I hope it doesn't.
This is a bad sign for the SX line, which already has some bugs!

Hi,
I’m assuming the newer keyboards are shipping with the latest operating system.

Had to update mine when I got it, but that was pretty early on.
Best wishes

Hello Enildo, it's true, but I'm crossing my fingers so that it doesn't happen again.

Hello rikkisbear, when I received mine, I immediately updated it to the latest operating system. Cheers. Hans

I also updated immediately but had problems with the SX900 after 22 days of purchase. The release of Sx900 / 700 is subsequent to "Genos". I suspect that instead of creating the operating system for SX, from scratch (ex-novo), has been adapted that of GENOS . This could explain any operating system bugs on the SX line. My problem is that my "puppy" is currently out of service ... :'(

Hi,
no doubt scary when something goes wrong. Hopefully that incident of yours, was a once only Hans.

I was so sad to read what happened to yours Pietro, I remember reading how excited you were when you got it.Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

This notice will occur on most Yamaha keyboards at one time or another. This usually happens when you are loading in something that is not meant for the keyboard or is corrupt or even to large.
It is the keyboards way of telling you you are doing something the keyboard dose not like. No need for panic just do as it asks Power off and after about 10 seconds power on. Get rid of any dodgy styles or files that have caused this.

I agree, the warnings are for this ... Unfortunately in my case there are two alternatives
1) a failure of the SX900 (out of order)
2) a bug that caused the boot screen to "freeze" (I tried everything).
The problem occurred after putting and removing the maximum of the favorites, it happened to another user, always with the favorites (Blackpool).
For this reason I thought more of a bug than a failure. Returning to this post ... I would say to be calm as EileenL says.
it is just a warning of incorrect reading/writing.

Maybe there will be an update soon as Genos update to fix some stuff, just came out V2.2. If the OS is basically the same they will probably apply to the SX as well. maybe?

Hi Guys, in my case, it was NOT loading a file. I was recording a MIDI to Mp3, by the way I used the highest resolution (320kbps) for better sound quality. The error occurred when I tried to stop recording, because I forgot to activate 3 tracks of the song in question. I don't know if this could have caused the problem. Greethings. Hans

It happened on my Genos tonight. I suspect this happens if the CPU of the keyboard gets overloaded. It is nothing to worry about, the keyboard just needs a short break😀

Hi Toril, you are right, although I find it strange that it overheats very quickly. especially the back, which has to do with the USB ports. Greethings. Hans

that would work if I was the singer and player.

But I’m always a keyboard player and singer or singers are others.

And often we play at events where you have one chance to do it right , like during bridal party walk-in at the wedding ceremony

Hello Rene1242, it is also convenient that you make a backup on your computer. Hans

Yes indeed hans your right a back up is always important iespecially on pc , i learned it the hard way i remember once i was doing a style and kept overwriting the same file every little editing changes when i almost finished the style and was doing the final editing and hit save the error massage came on , when i restarted my s770 at that time and accesed the style it told me data not loaded properly and from there i learned every edit i do i save a different save file ( sometimes for 1 style i did 10 - 15 save files then when im finished i delete them  a kept the final one ;-)

This just happened to me this is really terrible
I never had this on any other Keyboard
and this is not cool to have on a live gig
i had my recording on and i was playing a style and i was switching voices and it happend
i never had this happen before eon any other model
and again if this happens on a live gig you'll really be screwed
is Yamaha going to fix this or what?

also, i restarted it and then went back to what i was doing and the same thing happend 5 minutes apart

When you get this message it is because you have done something the keyboard is not happy with. This is a safe guard.  It happens to all of us. Sometimes it is because we are pressing buttons to quickly without giving the keyboard a chance to action it properly. Other times it will be when trying to alter styles that were from a different keyboard. I would not think you would have a recorder going while changing voices on a gig so I would not worry.

If this happens on a gig, it’s (very) annoying, but not the end of the world. You follow the directions that are in this thread, which is presumably why you posted here.

But I contacted Yamaha and the guy said the Keyboard is made for that purpose
As well when I had my psr-s770 I did the same thing multiple times and this never happened
But I have a friend witch had a psr-sx970 that it happened a lot
But his specific unit had an issue

So it seems like its an issue with the sx900 that it does this more often.......

Hi shneurslonim,

have you already installed the latest firmware update V1.05 (from 2020-07-17) on your SX900?

If so, it would be best to contact Yamaha Support directly (again) about this error. A complete Factory Reset (including formatting the internal Flash Memory) might help. (There is a special key combination for this. )

Best regards,
Chris

➪ Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
➪ Never put the manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)
