When I play a Midi File through Genos or MERISH 5 MIDI & MP3 player the chords are displayed on LED screen.

However when I load the same Midi File on CAKEWALK SOFTWARE (very old version 3.0) and if I make any changes (i.e. copy and paste chorus or delete notes) the chords for this Midi File are removed as it does not display when played back either on Genos or MERISH 5 Midi & MP3 player?

How do I fix this problem to ensure chords are not deleted???

Hi Oz,

this is a well-known "problem": Most "very old" MIDI sequencer programs cannot handle (import and save / export again) such XF Chord Meta events.

You could use "PSRUTI" program to save the Chords to a text file first. Then use your "very old" Cakewalk program. Finally use PSRUTI to import the Chords to the MIDI file again.

If you CUT a MIDI file (removing or adding measures), the original Chords (you exported to a text file before) will not fit anymore. In this case, PSRUTI can analyze the harmonies in a MIDI file and add the Chord events. (Use "Compute Chords" button in PSRUTI to do this.)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

➪ Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
➪ Never put the manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

the way wrong
When you make a recording you want to keep your own chords
the new cakewalk keeps your own chords in one go and save them in the midi file
you can correct little time shift in the chord track
Chord recorded with the keyboard are all slashed chords like c on c
remove the slash keeps them only if you want them with slash like c on e
You can use psrutti in midi files without chords

I had this problem too.
I solved it by using MixMaster.
In MM you can load 2 midifiles.
Load the midifile with the chords
and the midifile that was changed in Cakewalk.
Copy the chords from the midifile with chords
to the midifile without chords.
Pay attention to do this at the same MBT
as the midifile with chords.

Wrong way to
Download Cakewalk free by bandlab it save the chords
When you work for long time with Cakewalk use the new version
Don't need to go to another Prg.
You have to copy nothing the chords are already in the recorded keyboard midi file
by load it in cakewalk

I use XgWorks
Even a better prg
It got a chord track
It load the midi file the chords are on the chord track
Or you can make a chordtrack with the mouse
You can remove the arranger tracks in your midi file
Take a style in the prg.
Set it as parts under the chords
You can use the intro endings breaks and variations
Expand to midi
You can also change a style on any point in the chordtrack
Or use a double style layered the one on the other
You can also make differentt time signatures like 4-4 3-4 2-2 in the chord track

When he use MM make the changes save it
Some times later he want to chance someting in the file
load the file in old cakewalk
save the file and again the chords are gone

1st April 2020

Thanks to all for the quick response.

I have downloaded the CAKEWALK-BANDLAB and loaded the Midi File (Unable to attach the " Print Screen Shot ") as it indicates file too big 514KB

I need your help on the following (preferably step by step instructions with Screen Shot if possible) as I am new to this software program.

a) As you can see there are two blank measures before the main music plays - HOW TO DELETE THE 1ST TWO MEASURES.

I did highlight the 1st two measures  and under EDIT pressed DELETE but it did not delete the 1st two measures

b) How to " Insert Measure "

c) How to copy say " Measure 4 to Measure 8 (Tracks 2 to 6) and paste say to M85  (I highlighted on top bar the 4 measures and scrolled to M85 and under EDIT selected PASTE. However the tracks got pasted to TACK 8.....

d) How to insert lyrics and chords?

e) If the lyrics have chords above the text can it be inserted together in a Midi File??

Thanks for your help.

To insert lyrics is very easy
Select the melodie channel usual channel 4
Every wordpart is a melodie noot
Separate the wordpart in the tekst with stripes like   Me-lo-die
copy the tekst with copy/paste
go to lirics view and paste the text in the field
start the sequencer stop when it goes out of sync
Add or remove stripes to stay in sync like me-lo--die or me-lodie

To add chords i use one line tekst
Like : love me do(C)yes i do

Only gnmidi puts the chord on separate lines
But it is a **** to work with
But after add the lyrics go to gnmidi
It displays the chords on a separate line
The karaoke screen is very poor

I think to removie the 2 measures go to setup
search for record without start delay measures

There are multiple ways you need it. I will describe my approach.

a) Do the same to the video but keep the slide value at -2
https://youtu.be/vjqUzC4DqnI?t=473

b) Mark all channels and cut them (picture=split) then again use slide with +1 measure

c) Select number 1 for paste from the first channel (picture=paste)

d) You can enter text in the cakewalk this way
https://youtu.be/kxFHf-QV5mE
but it's much better and easier like this

e) It is practical to use this procedure
