PSR-E273 (Winter NAMM 2020)
« on: January 16, 2020, 06:12:08 PM »
Yamaha's NAMM 2020 page has not been updated yet, but there is a new E-series listed under portable keyboards: PSR-E273.

Plain black styling. 61 keys. 401 voices, 143 styles. MSRP: $199 USD.

Has a number of educational features: SMART chord, quiz mode, lesson mode.  Some of these are on PSS-E30 Remie.

It's clearly targeted for parents and kids as an entry-level keyboard.

My nephew might be interested in that one.

I have seen a review about this

  https://youtu.be/bBveAY_Vr2E

It sounds, that the PSR-E273 is a little bit disappointing: no velocity (!!!), no split, no layer, same old sounds. It is a good choice?

No split??? Even my PSR-47 has split! And you can layer sounds.

Genos, Tyros 5, PSR S975, PSR 2100
and PSR-47.
Former keyboards: PSR-S970.

The E 363 sounds like a really good choice for a keyboard with just a few dollars more.
But this one....piffff.....This could not be Yamaha. It looks like one though.

And if your kid have no interest in playing music just sell it.Someone will be intererresting of buying a used one "Yamaha".

I think it does have layered voices, but as with previous PSR-E2xx models they are preset voices-- that is to say, there is a "Dual" voice category with specific preset voices that combine two voices; you don't get to choose any two voices and layer them together.

Thanks for that explanation. I think this is ok for most purposes. But it has no velocity, for real?

Correct, the PSR-E2xx models have never had velocity sensitivity. Earlier models had MIDI or USB-MIDI connectivity, so you could at least use them as simple but fairly inexpensive sound modules. But later models don't even have the MIDI or USB-MIDI connectivity any more!
