Can the SX900 take advantage of USB 3.0?

No but you can still use a USB3 in the keyboard but it will only give USB2 speed.

As Eileen wrote. If your computer has a USB3 connection, then I recommend to use a USB3 stick to have (some) advantage of the dataspeed when copying, packinstallation etc.

Thanks. I do use 3.0 for my drive. I just bought a few mini drives for my SX900's to keep them permanently installed in the keyboard's second USB slot. I'm thinking of copying all of the internal styles onto this mini drive and then being able to organize these styles better for quicker access - separate Country, Pop, and Ballad. Separate R&B and Rock 'n Roll.

The question of 2.0 or 3.0 wouldn't matter except that I'm noticing that audio styles on the USB do take time to load, and this could effect the fluidity of a live performance. You might need to have some patter like a little joke lined up while the style is loading. That's not a problem for me.

I do wish Yamaha would have spent the extra $1 to have USB 3.0.

Don't know if the data (WAV) loads quicker when you use the internal USER-space (4GB) instead of a USB-stick? Your joke must be less than 0,5 seconds  ;D as I have some audiostyles in my ExpansionMemory and they load very quick (<0,5 sec.)

I have a half-second joke, but the audience laughs for only a half second.

Hi @all,

I also recommend using USB3 sticks, even though our keyboards currently support only USB2.

Current USB3 sticks are usually faster at USB2 terminals than USB2 sticks (at least compared to USB2 sticks that are already a bit older).

Best regards,
Chris

I can confirm that. And big style libraries take a lot of time to transfer from computer to USB 2 stick, so 3.0 is convenient.

I have been using the feature Audio link to Multipads for a while, and if you are like me, that use this feature, I recommend you MUST use USB drives 3.0, not just for the Audio Link Multipads, but, also had experience while recording AUDIO.....in real time, some of the USB 2.0 will stop while recording since the Audio recording requires more speed in writing data, so, if you are going to be recording Audio, and or using Audio Multipads, the USB 3.0 is the one.

My 2 Cents
