As a Scot, l would love a decent bagpipe sound, as the bagpipes on the Genos are rather poor. And l agree about the Pan pipes, l think they're a lovely relaxing instrument to listen too  ;)

I love Pan Flutes and the Yamaha pack ones are lovely and I use them a lot. The Trombone is also beautiful. To be honest I did not like the vocal voice as much as it sounded a little synthetic.

I quite agree with Eileen.

But the vocal voice is good for "once upon a time in the west".

The Pan pipe is superb.

Hi
Would be nice if we had some quality packs from certain synths , like Juno etc. Like the soft synths, Syntronic from IK Multimedia and Arturia, Korg.
Better guitars and saxes that to not go thin at the high ends
Like Oxford says, the bagpipes are not that good, very thin in my view. If you want to emulate  "The Outlander" it does not come up to that quality.
Movie type version of  "Over the sea to Sky"
The Genos is not a cheap machine.
Overall i am not moaning as the Genos sounds are great.
The only way to get more quality is VST 3 mixed in with the Genos via Cubase or something like it.

All the Best
John :)

PS  Note!! "On my opinion"

Hi John,

tyrosman probably means the (German) website of Peter Schips ( www.cms-sounddesign.de ).

Here is the free content (in German language):

http://cms-sounddesign.de/page101.html
http://cms-sounddesign.de/page132.html
http://cms-sounddesign.de/page16.html

And here are the same sites in English:

http://cms-sounddesign.de/page101_en.html
http://cms-sounddesign.de/page132_en.html
http://cms-sounddesign.de/page16_en.html

These free Voices / Packs (.ppf format) are for YEM-compatible Keyboards only (Tyros5 / Genos / PSR-SX900/700 / PSR-S970/975/770/775/670 / PSR-A3000).

Some Voices / Samples are additionally available in .wav/.aif format.

Note: To my knowledge, Peter Schips does NOT offer any voices in the .uvn/.uvd format anymore (Tyros3/4 Custom Voice format).

Best regards,
Chris

MultiPad parts added on Mixer Display

I've been suggesting this for years... so it's finally going to happen on the Genos.  I hope this will carry over to the sx900.  It will be so much easier to edit Multi Pads. (just like the style Parts and Song Parts)

Thank you Yamaha for re-writing the OS so these kind of improvements (all of them) can be added.  Yamaha has demonstrated they are listening to arranger owners/players.

Hi Chris and Tyrosman
Big thanks for that tip. :)

There are some handy sounds to be had in there especially if the rock guitars sound like the example.
I like the Jarre Revolution hammer on Anvil sound , Reminds me of the London Docklands Concert ,which i will never forget.
Those oriental flutes are the business also Similar to the opening of Berlin's " You Don't Know which is one of my favourite 80s songs.
Love the Queen  guitar.
I will give these a try after the house chore's are done later today.
I would love to see a midi to Style converter on the new update. Press a button and it's done!! Big Lol to that!!!  Pipe dream ,hopefully not Pan!! ;D

From my point of view is that every time i am on a cruise for a holiday ,the music is always old music standards from the 30s,40s etc.
I have yet to go on a cruise and hear Black Sabbath , 70s pop or even Pink Floyd music Soul , Tamla.
At least when going to the Carribean the reggae/ska  is fantastic and happy .
Is it me or am i getting younger!!!??????? Nice to hear the Stones wouldn't It. " The Moon is Up"!!  " She's a Rainbow". "roll up, Roll up"
At 69 I fear that i will have to be 110 to get what I want!!! Yes , I will be probably loving Angels instead or something much worse than that!!! :-[
It is a case now  " Fancy you had It"!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

All the best
John :)

Chris, thanks for posting those extra voice links. They are .ppf files. How do we play them on the Genos?
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.

YEM must be used.
Video shows how to save more * .ppf in one * .ppi. That * .ppi is transferred to a USB stick and written to Genos.

Hi John,

thank you for your detailed feedback!

P.S.
If you want to use several of the CMS "Single Voice Packs", you do NOT need to import all those .ppf files by using "Import PACK" function to YEM:

You can also make a NEW (empty) Pack first (or use an existing Pack) and then import several .ppf files to this Pack by using "Import CONTENT" function. For example, you could make one Pack that contains all CMS Gutar voices, one Pack with all CMS Synth voices and so on. :)

Best regards,
Chris

That's right, we can choose multiple ways to enter material into Genos. We can via WIFI, we can individually ppf or some other way. We choose an option that is better for us.  ;)

Hi guys (and girls),

good news: I just got an invitation from my instrument dealer for a Genos Firmware V2.0 Workshop/Presentation next tuesday (5th) by Manni Pichler. So it seems that at least a beta version, that one can present is already here (in Germany).
Stay tuned, I'll take notes and will try to give you a report.

Very excited for you. Have a wonderful time
Trying out 2.0

I will wait for a week or two after the release to watch
Few Demos and learn exactly what are the
Changes

Believe it or not, I'm still playing on the first Firmware Version
And never upgraded. I simply felt it was not worth
While at the moment because I'm still not even half way
Exploring the Genos and I have it for a year now!
I will surely upgrade to this version because I feel this is the real deal. I would appreciate if everyone can post video links as they start to pop everywhere.  I'm truly excited
For this update

Yes. But it has some nice new features! This is really the way to go, make a good, sturdy, well designed keyboard, like our Genos, and give it new updates. This makes sense, it is good for the environment. We can have the hardware (the keyboard) for many years, and yet have new updates that give it new features. Great! :)

I really don’t understand what is new about the voices, I see on the data list file that there is a S.art 2 trombone for example. I heard the S.Art 2 Latin Pan flute premium pack demo and if they are referring to “Zampoña” when they said “Latin Pan flute” I can tell you that it doesn’t sound like the real thing. Believe me, I don’t need to go to Perú because I’m from Peru :) and I heard a lot of zampoña players in my life.
Here in Lima you don’t even need to go to a special place or something like that to hear this beautiful instrument, you can hear it if you take a bus, because there are a lot of street musicians in Lima that play zampoña, and they usually go from one bus to another playing the instrument and asking to the passengers for a little collaboration, sometimes they even play the charango at the same time.

Well, I’m not saying that the update will be bad, I know that they will give you the update for free, but I would be interesting a least for me, to have new S.Art2 authentic voices (Even if I have to pay for these) instead of having always voices that sounds close to real thing but maybe they weren’t created using the real local instrument.

I just think that these new voice packs is just a filler to pad the update out.
Recycling old packs.
I would like to see more realism in certain instruments and would pay for them.
I find it weird that Yamaha packs are so expensive for what they are and Easysounds are just as good at a third of the price.
I find it great that i can use VST as well.
All in all the update looks great.

Yeah, it does.  8)
I think we should 'keep cool' until we have it installed before we give it any judgement, good or bad.
Sounds and packs included, if it's from what's possible to buy in the Y-shop, it will be a great bonus for those that have not bought it already.
But, there is also 50 completely new styles included, so as well as OS update and new features, there are various goodies for all Genos'ers. 👍😊
Just a few days before we get the X-Mas gift now..... exciting! 🎅
Cheers 🥂

Hi Toril

It is best  to keep the updates to the latest.
Do not be afraid as it only benefits the machine.
As long as the instructions are read and understood updates are easy.
I do think that people that have updates go wrong, is because  they are impatient and interfere before the machine has loaded the update.
It can take a while for an update to install and the latest update will probably take five minutes or more as it is quite a big one.

All the best

Hi, If you want realistic woodwind instruments I highly recommend you to try Audio Modeling Swam VST, it’s amazing, it works well with my s970 but thanks to the AT of the Genos keyboard, you can enjoy even more than me and the other PSR S users this incredible VST, because you can easily set this AT to control things like the growl or whatever you want.

I am still not able to download  updates on my Genos as I’ve mentioned before on the forum.  I now have to rely on Yamaha UK sending me  updates they’ve downloaded on their  usb’s. They have refused to check my keyboard to see what the problem is and I’m not happy about that but it’s the best I could achieve. I will  try to install V2 but I don’t hold out much hope as it wasn’t possible with the previous upgrades.

I don’t understand. You can update your keyboard when you have bc s proper USB, right?

If so, the keyboard is not the problem, your downloading is the problem. What steps do you take to download and create a correct USB stick?

Hi Alfred,

in some (very rare) cases updates can not be installed on the Genos, even if the Update file has been properly downloaded, unzipped and a suitable USB stick has been used.

You then have to perform a "special reset" (where absolutely ALL User data is deleted from the Genos). After that, the current update should be able to install properly.

Yamaha does not allow to publicly post the details of this reset method on the internet. But if needed, you can PM me on this topic.

BUT, as mentioned by Fred, IF a Update WORKS on your Genos with a USB stick you received from Yamaha, and the file on the stick is the official Update file (same as available on the Genos download page), the problem must be your download / unzip / copy & paste method, or the USB stick you had used ...

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Fred,
I’ve done all the procedures recommended
Used Yamaha approved usb
Formatted usb on genos,
Downloaded to root file from Mac and also  from Windows on another occasion.
Put usb into Genos
Pressed appropriate start up buttons
Genos can’t read or see the update file.

I’ve updated twice now using yamahas’  usb and download they sent me and hey presto no problem.

Thanks Chris, I’ll email you for the reset info.

Hello Alfred

I have been following your problems re. updating your Genos,I also have a Genos and previously a Tyros 5 and I've never had any problems with updates ,just a thought ,have you tried writing to the USB stick you are using for transferring the update files, this would verify that your Genos can write and read the USB stick, providing you are following the correct update procedure you should have no problems, the update file must be unzipped after downloading from the Yamaha website and the written to the root of the USB drive.

Previous keyboards-Yamaha PSR 410,Technics KN2000,KN5000,KN6000 , KN7000, Tyros5 and Genos

Hi Alan,
Thank you for your suggestions. Just to confirm yes I always unzip the file and make it the root and yes I can write to the same usb.

Hi Alfred
If what you do is to the book , i would not be satisfied with my Genos.
I would go for a new replacement.
You should not have to go through all of this putting updates in.
You are not getting what you paid for and it is not doing what it should be doing. To me that is a legal argument
A computer is a computer ,so everyone should have the same.
Stop being palmed off with quick fixes. Afterall you have paid well over £3,000.

All you have to do is download , unzip, follow simple instructions and wait . That's it.
Something is not right. If Yamaha are sending you a usb fix , then they know something is not right.

All the best
John

Just a thought.
I had a USB drive that did not work on my Genos.
I looked at the list of USB drives that would work, on the Yamaha site.
Bought one and everything works fine now.

I don't know anything about Mac as I use windows10.
Sounds to me like it is not unzipping properly. Make sure the update is not in any kind of folder or the keyboard will not see it.

You can check the hash of your unzipped file here:

https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/md5_checksum.html

It must have this value: e7e1372bbbae17b22c812082bd817df4
