Wow, the SX900 sounds very well ...

Hi, I have found a (Vietnamese) video in witch you can see (and hear) a (short) demonstration of the soundquality of the SX900. In a duo setup he shows the sound difference between the S975 vs. the SX900. And the winner is …..

You can't possibly get a true sound unless you can hear the keyboard first hand but there seems a definite improvement in sound.

It sounded like he used a sustain pedal on the piano of the SX, but not on the 975. That is unfair.

The first video listed by ton37 was most instructive.  For once, someone dared to show some of the choral voices.  Don’t know how others feel, but with a new arranger, I’d rather see/hear brief snippets of a lot of styles and voices, rather than a concert/demo from the Yamaha professionals.  It’s a given that the factory reps are great players.  My preference would be a series of short Yamaha videos, showing the full range of styles/voices that the new arranger offers.  After all, isn’t the heart and soul of an arranger its styles and voices?  Band-In-Box does a great job showing-off, with posted audio demos, of all of its real styles.  Now, if someone would have the courage to demo in detail the vocal harmony features and options of the SX900.  Rarely, are there videos on vocal performance with an arranger.  But, I suppose arrangers are primarily for players, not singers.

With vocal harmony on most keyboards you have to adjust it to your own voice. There is lots of editing you can do and then save as your own.

Of course it sounds great, isn't that what you would expect from the latest model. Is it better than previous models, maybe, but its marginal at best and down to personal opinion. Just like every other iteration for the last several years.
These keyboards have all sounded great for a long time and sound differences are never going to completely blow you away. If you are in the market for a new keyboard, why not. But if you have a recent model I really doubt the sound of this one is going to be night and day better. They never are.

For me it's the new features and capabilities. At some point though, I will have the keyboard that I really want.  I experiment a lot as a "power user".  We get pleasures from these keyboards in different ways depending on our interest and temperament.

Hi Mike, I agree: for me it does not have to differ night AND day. I'm satisfied with only 'day'…. ;D . As Joe H. wrote: it is the sum of the potential and features, including sound, that count. And the sum is for every individual different.

Hi,
I’m considering buying the new SX900. Currently have the s950, has anyone upgraded from the s950 to just say the s975 and was there a big difference in sound quality? Guessing The SX900 will sound even better again.

Unfortunately there’s no music stores in the area where we now live, and a 7 hr round trip is too far to drive for just a quick listen.

Thank you
Best wishes

Hi Ton :

Thank you for your feedback ! :)

There is a huge difference ( features, styles, voices etc. etc. ) between the 900 and 700.

It is hard to hear the sound quality difference on the internet though.
A " live " comparison might be necessary, I guess.

Also de SX700 seems to be a nice keyboard.
All depends on the personal needs of the player.

There is no doubt in my mind the new SX-serie will become successful.
Perhaps the price might be an issue for some people ? I do not know.

Enjoy your Sunday !

I think all this means is that you can not play a proper Guitar through the system and you have no vocal Harmony. This is probably the same on the 775.
if you want all the good stuff you need to go for the SX900.

I agree that the sx900 sounds better, but it’s a little deceptive as there running a stereo feed from the sx900 and a mono feed from the s975.

Hi Ton :

Apparently you will buy yours in The Netherlands, right ?

If you have ordered it, it would be interesting for my friend to know your unit € net price and the name, place of your Dutch dealer, if it is possible for you to give the required information of course.

My friend lives in Etten Leur ( NL ) and has the intention to sell her S750 privately and to buy an SX900 in November / latest early December 2019.

Thanks for your feedback, Ton !

Hi Babette,
There are a few large (international) Internet dealers (Bax, Thomann, Keymusic, Gear4music) on the keyboard market in the Netherlands. When someone in the Netherlands googles on the desired keyboard, you will automatically find those dealers advertising (incl. German / Belgian dealers). That also includes the prices of the desired keyboards. For the SX900 it currently fluctuates between € 2156 - € 2356. There are of course plenty of local dealers, who are also making good progress (Oostendorp, Joh.de Heer, MuziekhuisDera, etc.) The large internet dealers (usually) do not trade in and sell through their internet shop. The (smaller) local dealers often offer more / different service and you logically pay for it. The negotiation margin is not large for the SX900, at most a few hundred euros? This is because every advertiser wants to put down his lowest price on the internet. It is more difficult with an evt. in return. Many dealers would rather not trade in 'old' PSRs, because there is not much to be gained from that. Or you will receive very little in return. Ultimately, it is a one-to-one negotiation with your dealer. It just depends on what you choose, what appeals to you and what you have left for it.
My best regards,
Ton

Yamaha is strict about dealers following the Manufactures Advertised Price (MAP).  Dealers can sell for far less if they wish to.

When I bought my PSR S910, my dealer had to get a special price from the Yamaha supplier to match the price of an eBay seller who was selling several S910s as "open box" and getting around the MAP.

Thank you for your feedback. Very interesting information.👍

Ton, I will send a copy of your message to my Dutch friend.
She told me her S750 will be sold soon.

To my knowledge US retail prices ( tax incl. ) are lower than European prices.

World's lowest Yamaha prices are found in Asia, I guess.

Hi Pino, no I'm absolute not disappointed. On the contrary, I'm sincerely glad for you and I know that your/other Yammies sounds good too. I missed the DoWeDoWhab-sound in the former PSR, that was a reason to share this URL.  As I stated in other posts, the Yammies I owned (PSR Series) does all have a great sound quality. This post is about the new Yam-KB, and because there aren't still any other demo's because it is not been launched in USA/Europe we have to do it with the demo's from the Easter Region. So I have not intention to disqualify other Yammies. It is more curiousity to know all about a new toy. And besides the sound quality there are other features which have been added to each new Yammie-born  ;)

With all due respect Pino, but that also applies if you play a guitar solo in the middle of real guitarists. Or a trumpet for a brass band. You will also receive a comment on that. Not that I'm crazy about that DoBeDo sound, but because it indicates how far technology is able to make the sounds that people want. Whether or not they are used or not, that is a different matter. Why you write something derogatory about that homeplayer thing, that is a mystery to me. I don't care, but please leave. everyone in his value, right?

Hi SX900 friends :

IMHO Yamaha are launching " a second highend " keyboard arranger at a price that is approx. 50% lower than the price of the Genos.☝

I agree there are significant differences between both
" highends " but I am convinced many people, who have the intention to upgrade now or soon, will go for the SX900 and not for the Genos due to the price and the new features of the SX900.

I know most present Genos owners will disagree with my personal opinion. 😻

Everybody is respecting they have a complete other opinion, why not.

Time will tell what Yamaha's strategy will bring the market in the near future.

Will the Genos2 come at the end of 2020 or much later ?

Although I agree the SX900 is a very nice keyboard and I have mine on order and will replace my 970. The Genos still has a lot more things you can do with it and really can not be compared with the smaller model. I don't expect we will see a new Genos for a couple of years yet. I am more than happy with my one. I expect I will not be the only one who will have both keyboards as for me a smaller keyboard is easier to take out.

Babette,

Why on earth would I want to sell my Genos. I use this at home but as I said before a smaller keyboard is easier for me to take to small venues for care homes etc.

When you get yourself a Genos perhaps you will understand more why so many of us like it and are not wanting to get rid of it.

Your constant questions all about the same thing get a little tiring at times. Do you actually play.
