T5 76 Key replace
« on: August 25, 2019, 06:20:40 PM »
Have any one on the forum replaced a key on the Tyros 5 76?
Is there some youtube showing how to do this?
Have a youtube movie showing how to doit on a Tyros 4, but seems like the Tyros 5 is more complicated to do.

A T4 and T5 cannot be that different, can they? But if you're not confident enough to do a job like this on a multi-thousend dollar instrument, I would recommend to take it to an official dealer or repair shop.

Can one key be replaced, or do you have to replace the whole set of keys?

Hi henrycar,

the keys of Tyros4 and Tyros5 are identical (same Part numbers). Each key can be repaced separately. (To replace a BLACK key, the white keys to the left and right have to be removed, before.)

The disassambly/assembly procedure of the case and the keys on T5 is almost identical to T4.

BUT there are many things to keep in mind when doing this. So, I strongly recommend to read the Tyros5 Service Manual, first.

The prices (in Germany) are about 6 Euros for a white key and about 7 Euros for black key. In Germany we can get spare parts for Yamaha keyboard from "Audio-Service.com":

https://www.audio-service.com/asshop/shop.nsf/sts?open

You could read the corresponding pages in Tyros4 Service Manual, first (from page 11 and page 19), to download here:

https://psrtutorial.com/lessons/workshops/ServiceManuals.html

If you need Tyros5 Service Manual, you can PM me. :)

Best regards.
Chris

Thanks to all your answers.
I do have the service manual for the Tyros 5, and I have also a Youtube that explains how to do it with the Tyros 4  but this person does not take the key board out, he just removes the keys just by taken the keyboard top off
and removing the keys holder in the back of the keys. It looks so easy, but the repair manual tells you to remove a lot of other things that maybe  are not necessary to remove.
Thanks for the repair manuals page, now I can see that the Tyros 5 is exactly the same thing as on the Tyros 5.
Then is ok to follow the instructions that the Youtube movie shows, here is the movie:

Very clear instructions to follow.
Some how my nail is digging  into a C key, I ordered from Yamaha, does not cost to much.

Hi henrycar,

this text is copied from the T5 Service Manual, page 19:

26. Keys (White and Black Keys)
26-1 Separate the upper case unit and lower case unit.
(See procedure 1.)
26-2 Remove the MK unit.
(See procedure 25-2.)

....
....

You could try if you can remove the broken key WITHOUT removing the complete "MK unit", first.

If there is not enough space to remove the key, then you can still remove the "MK unit".

Best regards,
Chris

I did a video on removing  the keys and repairing the strip... The video is complete from start to finish and it's not that hard to do. The T5 and T4 are the same.

Yes, I have done that. I replaced 5 keys on my T5, and there was nothing to it. There is a video in another post here.
