SX packs cannot be installed on Genos
« on: August 16, 2019, 03:03:01 PM »
Hi.

I have noticed that pre-installed packs of SX series cannot be installed on Genos. It does not allow you to select pack when you want to create the pack for installation.
It seems some of the files are not able to play in Genos? New things in SX on voices or styles?

Hi Vali,

those Packs are in CPF format. I have imported a PSR-SX900 Instrument Info file .(n27) to the YEM: The SX900 versions of these CPF Packs can be imported to YEM now but NOT the SX700 versions of the Packs.

And of course, the Packs can NOT be installed on other than the SX models. For Tyros5, Genos and Sx7x Install Targets, YEM says "This content cannot be installed on the selected instrument".

Best regards,
Chris

Yes, Chris, that's I've said, but what is the reason? That's my question!  :-\

Probably because the keyboard they are intended for is not on sale yet so no ID numbers available for YEM.

Yamaha doesn't want these packs shared for free... we only get them if you buy the keyboard.

Hi Vali,

i guess, that only ONE of these Packs will be preinstalled on the SX900/700 models (depending on the country in which the keyboard is sold). And Yamaha probably does not want these packs to be installed on devices other than SX models.

By the way:

There is also a Vietnamese Pack for SX models (CPF format):

SX700

SX900

Perhaps CPF extension means a pack that can be installed only on the instrument where this pack has been created? All the other PSR packs with PPF format are perfectly compatible with Genos.

Francesco

I thought about this, too... This seems to be the only explanation!

Regards,
Vali

Looks like Yamaha is going to implement the same copy protection policy for purchased packs for the SX keyboards is it does now for the Genos.

They started to use copy protection also for PSR-S models some time ago. Two newer expansion packs for PSR (Colors of Romania and Greetings from Italy) are available only in CPF format. This started when YEM was enabled to support this for PSR. So it seems obvious, that they continue this policy for SX models.

I think you can't install there packs into YEM as no one has the keyboard yet. Once you have it and install keyboard ID then it will work.

But we should be able to install our .ppi files from the S970.  I only have one Yamaha pack... the Euro Dance pack (it should install on the SX900), the rest are 3rd party .ppi packs.

Hi Joe,

you will have to use the .ppf (.PPF) versions of S970 Expansion Packs. ;)

.ppi (.PPI) versions of Expansion Packs normally can only be installed exactly on the model for which they were created. In addition, only ONE .ppi Pack can be installed at a time, as it will delete all previously installed Expansion contents.

Understood. Yes that's what I meant... I could add the Euro Dance pack to my other (3rd party) packs and install them together on the SX900.

Use hexedit for this. It is possible.

You don't need a hex editor, you just need to import the .n27 file in YEM for your keyboard.

Hi bernamato,

what did you mean exactly here? Why could / should a hex editor be used here?
