Trade up price from a Tyros 5
« on: August 16, 2019, 11:57:22 AM »
I have been offered  a price of £1800 to pay  and my T5 on a new Genos.
Is this about the right  sort of price ?

I assume this is for a brand new Genos not a used example.

I would say yes, it is a very good offer if it includes the GNS-MS01 speakers, and in line with the general market if it does not.

Most Genos prices are around 3300 pounds - some a bit higher, some lower- but depends on the detail of what is included. This means they are giving you about 1500 pounds for your in part exchange Tyros. That seems very fair, since they probably will sell it for no more than  1800 - 2000.
You could probably try selling your T 5 personally, and maybe squeeze a little more out of it, then go without a part exchange and try to squeeze the dealer down a bit, but that is an awful lot of hassle for very little gain, and no certainty it will work out.

DO IT! Reread the previous posts, especially the one from DEREK A and if it's still there jump on it and don't look back. Like my second wife said 'there is a real big difference'.  Don in MI

I had a T5 and upgraded to a Genos . . .

I purchased the Genos first and sold the T5 on my own later . .  meaning that I did not trade the T5 for the Genos.

My reasoning was that having both keyboards available would allow me time to migrate all my registrations, etc.  I also thought i could sell the T5 at a better price.

I took me several months to sell the T5 on eBay.    Yes, there are buyers but they all want to negotiate extremely hard and what they offer is sometimes a ridiculously low price.  From the money i got for the sale I still had deduct shipping, eBay commission and Paypal commission.

Trading might not be so bad after all . . .

thanks

Considering the Genos has been out for a few years, I'd move your T5 with that deal. Every day you wait, the T5 value goes down. I'm lucky enough to deal with a store that has a great business model. I always trade at the right time of the instrument's life cycle and get top dollar for it. I also keep my gear in pristine condition.

Maybe it might be wiser to wait for the Genos2 ... ?
Genos2 available at the end of 2020 ?

Only Yamaha can give you the answer but they will not. 😦

Waiting for Genos 2 which may not be with us until 2021 the price of a Tyros 5 will have dropped quite a bit by then.

Not really Babette just stating what happens the longer you keep a keyboard.

Babette,

Why do you have such a hard time with people who enjoy their instrument?

I sold my Tyros 5 a month before the Genos.  Got a bit more. Selling on your own is a chore. Have to be careful about a stranger, and cash.  Sometimes it's just easier to trade with a dealer.  Less risk.

Agreed. I neither have the time nor patience for "tire kickers." Unless you get REALLY lucky, you're better off to establish a longterm relationship with a retailer who won't do you harm in the long run.
