Additions for the Tyros 5
« on: May 12, 2019, 03:04:40 AM »
Hi Folks,
Until now I have never considered adding expansion packs or anything to my T5
I am looking for suggestions for what to purchase first, IE what might be the most useful software addition

Hello Adrian. I suppose you have the expansion flash memory module installed in your T5? You must have that.

Hi,
In case, I would advise the Mutec card of 2048 mb which is compatible and is worth proportionally cheaper than the Yamaha card.
Have a nice WE

Hi Adrian,
It really depends on what voices you like and as I like Organs I have the Euro and US organ pack. Also has some great styles on it. I have the Church and Christmas pack which again has voices and styles you can use for other things. The pack of two Pan flutes is very nice. Country Musician also has some fun Multi Pads as well as good voices and styles. I have most of the Yamaha packs and they are all very good.

My suggestion is similar to Eileen's -- there are many options to choose from, so it does depend on your musical interests.  I perform with my T5, so having good electric piano sounds is nice.  The Vintage Keys pack provides this.  But if you're not interested in, or in need of that, then other packs may work better.  I have all the Yamaha developed packs for the T5, and I can say they consistently have done a good job with the quality.  And I also agree that getting the 2GB expansion pack is worth it.  Once you start buying expansion packs, the memory usage goes fast and you will wish you had more.

Hi Toril S
Thankyou for telling me about the Expansion Flash Memory, I didn't realise that I would need that.

Eileen & emasters,
Thankyou both for your suggestions I will take look at all of Yamaha's packs, I think I shall like all of them, I was just looking for a starting point, as you say it depends on our individual personal interest
I have become more conscious about handing out the shekel's now that I am retired
Thanks Again,
Adrian

Has anyone tried the Celtic pack? I am thinking about it while the 20% sale is on, so would be interested to hear.

How long time to load new sounds/voices on 2GB memory? For 1GB is about 40'. Too much for me!

It is about the same but you have to remember that some of this time is taken formatting the memory before loading in the packs. Still you only have to do this once and then the packs are easily accessed after this on the keyboard.
