Topic: Please help , Tyros 4 or Keep my Psr s970 ??

Hi , just looking for help on deciding if i should keep my Psr s970 or trade it plus $1000.00 cash for the T4 ?
Any thoughts to help me decide would be appreciated !!

Hello Mansfield,

It depends a bit on what you're after. The T4 has a nicer touch to the keyboard - but the S970 has more of the new sounds similar to what you find on the Genos (almost). Weight might be a consideration if you plan to take it on the road.

When reselling later, you will get less for an older keyboard than for one of the newer generation - maybe a thought too.

I am almost to say that you might be better off with the S970 unless you have a chance to trade that one for a Tyros 5 which would be my choice because of the ensemble voices and better keybed.

Do you have a chance to play the T4 so you can compare the sounds with your own ears and fingers? I still find that is important.

It will depend completely on the features you are looking for.

The Tyros will have a hard drive, an extra right voice, video out. Can't think of much else.

Unless you need a specific feature, most people would have a hard time justifying the extra $1000.

Vocal multipads and/or a better keybed e.g.

Only you can decide. Nobody else.

An extra $1000 seems to me to be a bridge too far.
$500 sounds more reasonable, IMHO.

Just have one more question I would like some feedback on , If a may asked .  Are the styles voices ( ie guitar phases )  any better on the T4 compared to Psr 970 ?  This will go a long way in help me with my decision !

The T4 is not compatible with Yamaha Expansion Manager. That may mean something if you like to download and install expansion packs. I would try to find a good deal for å T5. I believe the guitar pads are much the same.

I guess you have received this offer from a dealer.

It sounds like you cannot compare both kbs at a local store.
A " live " comparison would answer all your questions.

But again ... an extra $1000 does not justify your purchase if
your S970 still is in mint condition, IMHO.

Thanks ladies for response and opinions !!  Maybe I would be better of spending my money on a Taylor or Martin guitar and keeping my 970 and not stepping back to a 10 year old machine !!  Love to see Yamaha put out a module much like the Roland BK7, would love to midi it up to my Roland PK5 bass pedal for backing styles !  Its basically what i do with the keyboard , leaves me hands free to play guitar and do vocals !!

Tyros 4 has of course better sounds than the s970 although it doesn't have newer features,newer sounds,newer well made styles etc and probably got allready 8 years of usage.
I also believe that the dealer asking to much for the trade.(1000$)
Keeping the s970 is a good decision,I agree with you.

Good shout Eileen, Manfield can keep his S970 and Buy the T4  for less than $1000 and have two keyboards

And that I would greatly reccomend! I have T5 and S-975. Two powerful keyboards that will keep me busy for many years to came.

If you are mainly a guitar player why should you spend an extra $1000 to get a T4 ?

Keep your S970 now and buy a second hand Genos in 12/2020 or the new S975 successor.

Thanks all , decision made , keep my Psr s970 and get myself another guitar !! I have a Fender telecaster , a Gibson Les Paul , Yamaha Apx acoustic ( My favorite right now ) may as well get a Martin that I've wanted for a long time !!  I'll called it my retirement gift !!  lol
