Can you really use SA and SA2 voices in styles?
« on: February 08, 2019, 02:09:06 AM »
I was just reading the Genos reference manual about Style Creation, and it says this under Recording Bass, Chord 1-2, Pad and Phrase 1-2:

Available Voices for recording
Any except for the Organ Flutes/Drum kit/SFX kit Voices can be used for recording.

This apparently means you can use SA and SA2 voices in styles, which isn't allowed on the Tyros 3. When did Yamaha change this limitation?

Hi Cindy
I think the SA type voices were okay in styles but may not have given the same effect you could get playing live:
"The characteristics of SA2 Voices
(default vibrato setting and articulation
effects applied by the [ART] buttons) are
effective for real-time performance;
however, these effects may not be completely
reproduced when you play back
a Song which has been recorded using
SA2 Voices."
However, the mega voices were not appropriate for playing live  and were more appropriate for styles.
"Because of the complex nature of these Voices and the precise velocities need to
play the sounds, they’re not intended for playing from the keyboard. They are,
however, very useful and convenient when creating MIDI data—especially when
you want to avoid using several different Voices just for a single instrument part."
The quotes are from the manual

Thanks Ed - So are you saying that SA and SA2 voices are allowed to be used on the Tyros 3 in styles?

Hi
Yes but you will not get the same effects that you would get playing live where they can provide special features such as a slur, slide glissando etc.
Perhaps someone else will jump in.
