Plain fun and enjoyment.
« on: January 25, 2019, 07:38:28 PM »

Its been 18 days since the Genos arived at my doorsteps.
And its been a great fast and furious trip so far.

I will tell you guys whats the best about the Yamaha Genos..
The best about the Genos is you guys overhere at the forum..
Allways helpfull, and allways wanting to share..
Questions get answered, and if you ask for a specific style, your mailbox gets spammed with files..

The Genos itselves sounds and plays and controlls phantastic..
Sure there are things that could be done smarter..
but i am getting there with some workarounds..
Mostly found them trough the ipad, at a very acceptable price..

The live controlls are incredible..
The interface once you know your way around is very accesible
And the file system, working directly from usb stick at itselves is a reason on itselves to stick here..
I don’t think i ever want to live witouth the registration memmories again

And there are some features that still make me drooll when using them..
The wersi organ, is a favourite
But the ensemble voices are so much fun..
And the diversity of (user)styles for all musical directions is unbeleivable..

There is one thing i really miss however..
And thats audio over USB...
Now to connect the ipad to the Genos i need to use an expensive audio device
Being able to plug the ipad directly into the Genos would have been a blessing..
Espescially for all those people that don’t yet own one or more of them.
I don’t think this is one of those things they will ever add in a patch..
And we might have to wait for this till the next gen genos..

But then, now everything is working great...
So no worries...

I am a happy camper here on this board..
And enjoying every minute and more when playing the genos..

Great report, thanks!

Yes, the audio over USB has been discussed here and on other forums. I also find it would be useful but not a necessary thing to enjoy the instrument. I have connected the Genos to a dedicated PC (you can see it on my avatar) using a Yamaha MG-10XU mixer console which incorporates a 24 bit USB audio interface. That helps me to mix PC audio, Genos, an extra microphone and such, all connected to a set of JBL monitors and a subwoofer (2xLSR305+LSR310S). I have also connected my Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO headphones to the mixer console, so I can practice and play an night  :)

I hope next Genos OS update will bring some new functions but, even if not, I am happy to have bought it.

It is so nice to hear some positive feed back on Genos. It is the best Yamaha arranger/work station so far and a pleasure to use.

I had Psr- 6700 Psr-500, Psr-2000 Tyros 2,3,5, Roland-500 and currently Genos, Korg Kronos and Yamaha MODX and I can say on the forum that Genos is the best arranger that is currently on the market. I respect Korga Pa4x on which I had the pleasure to play but I will stay with the arrangers at Genos.
Greetings to forum members.

I have had my Genos for over a year now and I am still amazed by the sound and styles.
Sooooo much fun to play.
I had some questions in the beginning as well that I posted on several forums.
This forum was the only one where I got the answers I was looking for ...

Hello,

There are 2 boring details missing in the Genos, I think.
  • A half moon to drive the rotary.
  • A pedal to switch to Fingered on Bass when pressed and to Fingered when released.

I'am triyng to fix this with an Arduino Nano and some relays. The half moon is the regular way to drive a rotary on vintage Hammond organs. For the fingering pedal, the best one should be a piano sustain, one that you can block on pressed position, because the proble with the fingering is that there is no way to display the choosen one.
