« on: January 13, 2019, 07:08:39 PM »

I think i saw some korg pa4x to yamaha conversions floating around here some time ago, but i don’t seem to be able to find them. Would anyone be willing to help me?

There is a few very usefull very generic styles, i liked a lot on my pa4x.. it would be great to have them again..

I have been told these styles (PA4X) cannot be converted.😱
Wished they were available but wishful thinking, I guess.

Bachus,

I hope this is what you are looking for. You will need a copy of StyleMagic to properly convert the Korg Style Markers to Yamaha Style Markers.  This conversion table was originally posted by Bill Grosse.  I used it to convert a Korg style successfully, but there was a problem with the Mega Guitar part.  Korg uses a different scheme than Yamaha.

An after thought... you may be able to do the conversion in MixMaster (if the file will load). I think you can set the filter to just display the style Markers.  You might have to change the file extension to .mid to edit the markers in both MixMaster and StyleMagic.

Thanks Joe,..

i was hoping to find someone allready did that job for me..

i only own styleworks for Korg, so i could convert Yamaha styles to korg
but i didn't use it that much
Having a full time dayjob, the process was to timeconsuming, because as Bill points out
and converting mega voices to Korg (Korg does not really use megavoices) was a problem..
so it was hard work to convert it..

Well, the structure of these files is quite different..
Because in Korg styles there is 6 chord variations in every variation
based on the chord type another variation is used..
Most styles however only use 2 variations, one for major and one for minor..

A program like Stylemagic is however programmed to take this into account..
And styleworks full, offers this conversion..
however, it comes with a lot of work.

I remember our conversion nerds have tried again and again to do the job in the past but none of them found the key to make the PAX4 styles conversion successful. 🐻

IMHO this conversion is a dream that will never come true ... but who am I.

Napoleon B. once said the word " impossible " will not be found in a French dictionary but finally he lost the war.

Take care, Babette

It is not a big deal (IMO), but the only problem I encountered in conversion process is fills/break length, which on Yamaha is only one measure, but Korg accept 32 measures for all style parts (if I remember well :) ). So, custom styles which uses more than one measure for fills or break, need to be cut to one measure, which on most of the cases is a nightmare process, because you don't know which measure to choose. Korg has another feature for fills and break, which consists in option of the fill to start (on next measure or immediate), which means fill can uses remaining measures to end of variation or fill length from the moment you press fill, or to use all measures from fill if the option for fill is "Next measure".
Style file concept on Korg is much much better structured vs Yamaha's Style structure. You can do a lot of things or use a lot of controls, including sustain control.

I use Cubase and StyleMagicYA to convert styles from Korg to Yamaha.

Vali

I believe the PA4X preset styles have never been converted and it looks like they cannot be converted due to the technical reasons/problems already explained by other members of this forum.

If one wants to play these styles one will be obliged to buy the PA4X keyboard, IMHO.

Styles having Guitar Mode channels on Korg, cannot be converted, because Guitar Mode of Korg is 100% different than Yamaha's poor guitar mode. Guitar mode in Korg splits keyboard in 4 zones:
C1-B1 - strumming keys (one key for a strumming type)
C2-B2 - one string / key (and different positions)
C3-B6 - free keys for playing patterns
C7-B8 - RX Noises
There is also a key (C0) which has 90 velocities samples which plays guitar in different types with different number of strings played.

RX noises keys from Korg also must be tweaked to sound on Yamaha, as Korg has much more RX noises keys than Yamaha (C7-B8 and in some cases it is extended over)

Now I understand why it is almost impossible to convert PA4X preset styles.

Maybe it is wise to forget this conversion and move on ?

Hi Bachus, are sure these conversions are PA4X styles conversions ?

Maybe Henni can answer this question.

Hi all,

Look at some Pa4x converted styles here:

https://dopamine4korg.wordpress.com/2018/03/25/two-styles-from-pa4x-converted-to-pa600-compatible-for-pa3x-or-havian/

EMC Styleworks can convert these to Yamaha format, but the results are not good at all, not even usable - I know as I've tried and I have a legal copy of Claus' very latest EMC version.

Cheers,

If the parts that don't sound correctly be replaced with some Yamaha's parts wouldn't have been a better result maybe?
Something will fit.

For how the "fill in" will behave, in Yamaha we have the "Auto fill in" button but it would be really helpful to have more "fill in" measures indeed.
Can't they also just cancel 2 intro's and 2 endings to use the extra buttons in main variations better?
Who is really that dude who starts and finnishes a song 3 times anyway?  ;D

Hi had pa4x before Genos and i agree with you. The Spaghetti western was one of my favorite style on pa4x. The conversion that i post before are nothing to do with the original. It sounds very bad and must be tweaked a lot to approach the result on pa4x.
When someone can make this it would be great to share it.

I know this sounds so childish but when I was deciding on the arranger : Genos or Pa4x, this style almost tipped the scale towards the Korg. I was thinking that if this is what this machine is capable of the sky is the limit.
Despite that I'm very happy I went with the Genos instead.
Much more powerful instrument and to be honest much more friendly

I try to arrange it. But i have some problem with recording the SFX from horse Intro and Ending. When i tried to make it has deleted the Rythm2 so i leave it so.

I use in my demo Drumkit from CMS and Big choir from Expansion Pack Church and Xmas. I prefer it so but it work fine with the legacy voice too.

Here is the demo link:

I am glad to see you enjoy it.
I didnt change the bell and the shadow guitar on Main D. But the result is already acceptable.

I also see that the Genos accept Minor and Major Intro und Ending melody. So sad that Yamaha does not allow us to program this on Style creator. I found it really good on pa4x. And with this style it work too.
