Availability of additional Smooth Jazz styles for Genos
« on: November 09, 2018, 02:12:01 PM »
Hello Genos friends.

Quick question: could anyone recommend any additional upgradeable style that would be suitable for SmoothJazz/ Jazz Funk etc. style of playing.

Thank you,

Bart

Why not take a look at the styles on the Yamaha Music Soft site. You can listen to them before purchasing.

The Genos has a huge potential for being a Smooth Jazz beast, unfortunatly there are but a few preset styles which is a shame. Yamaha Music Soft site is disappointing too...

I've been looking for the same thing Bart. Actually contemplated making a pack of my own. I use to program this type of stuff professionally, but I just don't have time at the moment. I'd love to find a solid pack like this. If I do I'll be sure to share.

If you listen to Smooth Jazz stations lately you'll notice quite a bit of EDM influence. I've been looking into those sections of the Genos more and more. There's a lot in there you can adapt if you get creative.

Thank you all. I looked at the Yamaha site and did not really find anything good.

If there is desire from the forum member for this kind of genre, we may be able to convince guys at https://www.camaro24.pl to make some styles for us to buy. They seem to be very good at this stuff. I just bought: https://www.camaro24.pl/magic-groove-24k-magic-bruno-mars,id15268.html and it sounds like something that could be in the box out of Yamaha factory. I am basically looking for styles that are made natively on Genos and are fresh-sounding and a lot of the stuff on Yamaha is old-sounding.

Smooth Jazz is a large genre but I would think that there are several Ballad styles that would work.

I think Smooth Jazz might be just a label rather then a genre, but maybe you could discuss that forever without coming to an agreement.

My very personal view on Smooth Jazz is defined by artists like Brian Culbertson, Brian Simpson, Cindy Bradley, Dave Koz, David Benoit, Euge Groove, Gerald Albright, Richard Elliot, Rick Brown and the one and only Shakatak, just to name a few.

The Bruno Mars R&B stlye sounds great, for sure I will be a regular customer for styles of the kind.

By coincidence today I found an inquiry of Yamaha Music Europe in my mailbox asking about my needs regarding arranger software, and needless to say I was asking about styles for smooth jazz / funk styles. If you're into that type of music don't miss to speak up. This was the link for that inquiry, I'm afraid it's in German language, don't know about similar surveys in English:

Hi Bart --

You might want to give these styles a try:

http://sandsoftwaresound.net/motif-styles-for-your-arranger/
http://sandsoftwaresound.net/free-djx-ii-styles-for-psr/

The "Motif styles" were converted from Motif/MOX performances, mainly, soul jazz and funk. The intros and endings are simple count-ins and tag endings. The "Funkhunters" style is a drum pattern run into an EP, so it's kind of aharmonic (fuzzed out 70s fusion bliss).

The DJX-II styles were converted from Yamaha DJX-II. They are mainly R&B with a touch of jazz. They are DJ styles, i.e., have the chord progression cooked into the style. The ZIP file includes PDF charts for the chords/harmony.

I have a new collection in the works, but MODX keeps taking my attention.  :)

All the best -- pj

P.S. All of the styles are free.
