Playlist key of the song
« on: October 30, 2018, 07:00:34 AM »
Is there a way that we can put the key of a song in playlist
So that when we load a song from or playlist the style starts in the right key
A function the set the starting chord would be handy
Also a next song function in playlist would be a small step for yamaha
But a great function for a live player  ;D

You can edit the song name to include the key you play it in, so you don’t need to remember it, but I don’t think you can set a style to play itself in a specific key. And why would you want to do that? Surely the whole point of the keyboard is to play it? If you are driving the style with chords, what difference to play the first chord??

If this is what you want to do, then use song files rather than styles.

I have some registrations saved as this way, with the key in which the singer sang...
So, as Mike said, you can add the key in the name of the playlist record. If you use transposition, it is recommended to write the key where you sing, not the transposed one! Or you can put the number of semitones and the sign of the transposition, also. ie 001. My song name (Gm+1)

Vali

I play live with 2 hands not 4
A lot of switching to do
From text,to playlist next song, load,Then we are back in text witch hand i use richt left?
For chords  im 82 not so fast anymore like Some advance function to help me play like a 21
Think the memory of the genos is a lot better as mine  :D
So key set and no more thinking ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's what registrations are for. With my registrations, I never have to take my hands off the keyboard. They set the transposition, load the style, load the multipads, display the text files, and even load the relevant pdf on the iPad.

The playlist of Genos was made to make things more easier, like song selecting and managing, grouping.

IMO is easier to make a playlist with some songs you play instead of searching for some registrations in thousands of registrations banks.
Indeed, there are some improvements they have to make to Playlist function in Genos, but as it is now it works very well, and in my opinion it is useful.

Of course, there are several ways you could change/select songs/styles to play, but the easiest way is the one you're used to, which you use day by day.
For example, some people use one registration bank for a song, and put their first registry as main registry, which select the style or midi file, and the other 9 registry has some other functions set, change voices, settings for harmony, splitting point for some dual voice solo instrument parts, etc. Some other people use one registry from registration memory bank per song, as they no need to change for other instruments/voices, or change voice harmony, etc, so it is enough one registration per song. The second way is the one I use, because I sing in a band, with more acoustic instruments, so I don't need to make some solo interventions, because they do.

It's good that Yamaha has let us use registrations as we want.

The playlist is in addition, is to help us choose quickly registration banks or to automatically load registrations from registration memory banks and to auto-display some of viewers.
So, with one single touch you have : Registration bank select from thousands of registration bank files (a lot of pages to search for), registration memory from 1 to 10 auto load, and Lyrics/Text/Score automatically display on the screen. One touch for all of this! What do you want more?! :) I think they have created a very good way to manage registration banks.

Vali

Hi Al.

The Playlist has come in Genos to supplement the registrations ...
And I think it really does. It is easier use Playlist, instead of using only registrations.

thanks.  that is a good idea . . . .

In my case, i do not use the Genos playlist feature . . . . . because . . . . .

I display my PDF's on my iPad using SongBook+ app.   I use the playlist feature of the SongBook instead of the Genos playlists.

With my setup, i control the entire gig with my iPad.   Songbook playlists are extremely easy.

thanks

Hi Al.

Yes, indeed, for those who use other optional equipment (like iPad & Songbook+ ).
But for those who use only Genos, the Playlist function is better than using only Registrations.

Vali
